Honestly disagree that we should have moved on Partey / ESR this window, legal/moral issues with Partey notwithstanding. If we sell either, we have to replace them, and that would more likely cost more money than we would earn from selling them. I'd rather keep Partey and accept that he may go on a free instead of for like 30+m that we would get for him, rather than get that money only to spend it and extra on, say, Lavia, who would cost more, be less good, and take time to actually gel with the team. The main benefit to Lavia would be that he's younger and have a longer contract, but that's not imo worth the downsides. Same thing with ESR, except he's younger and also at an all-time low in value due to his injuries. Would you rather get the likely sub-30m we're likely to have gotten from him right now at market value (unless we let him go to Chelsea if he wanted to which should be a nonstarter), only to spend it and more on another player who, like Vieira, would take time to adapt and learn the system, and like Havertz would be pressurised by filling the shoes of a fan-favourite?
