Images to animated GIF offline and FLOSS ( Linux )

I was a very long time I didn't need to created a animated gif...
I had a program before to take a static images (.jpg, .png etc..) and convert then into an animated gif..
All the web search engine push for online (aka SaaSS) tool 🤮
ffmpeg is my go to for things like this but I can never remember the necessary incantation on the command line. Fortunately ChatGPT tends to get you most of the way there a lot of the time, I would normally asks something like the following and start from there:

Gimp can do some animations, but it's probably not the most advance animation toolkit. I took the static image and converted it into an animation with GIMP, using a wobble effect. It creates lot of layers. Then save this as a gif, tick the animated tickbox.
