My theme for the day is “Obscure Australian 90s bands that will only get 2 upvotes”.
This band from Sydney, who were active in the 1990s, would be one of my answers to the daily challenge about bands I wish were still together.
Theirs is an all too familiar tale. Supreme talent, GREAT songs and a modicum of success that ended all too soon after the death of singer/guitarist and songwriter, William Arthur.
There are at least 7 artists called Glide on Discogs, which makes their stuff quite hard to find on the internet. Here's the Discogs release page to help you tell them apart from the Echo and the Bunnymen side-project and all the others.
They put out 3 albums (1 posthumously) and number of EPs and singles. I always made a point of going to a Glide gig whenever they made the trip down the highway to Melbourne, so I must have seen them at least 10 times. Maybe more. I once interviewed them for a fanzine I was involved with.
There is a labour of love documentary, that has been in the works for some time, about him and the Sydney and Melbourne music scene in the 90s. Hopefully, that should see the light of day at some point before too long.
