Has anyone heard from the Dev in the last 5 months?
Pretty much the title. There's plenty of things that need to be addressed and as a sync ultra paying customer I feel that the Dev should at least try to maintain their software. Curious if anyone else has tried emailing him?
Back when it was useful for reddit I remember thinking one time "Huh, it's been a while since this app updated, wonder whats up?" Only to visit the subreddit and find out that he's scrapped the last updated and has been awol for months lmao. Somethings never change.
Personally why I don't pay for ultra. He can come and go as he pleases, but if I payed for ultra I'd expect more regular updates. He doesn't want to, that's fine, but I don't pay for that.
I purchased the Pro version, ad free, and I'm happy with it. Same as what I had with Reddit, performs the same for me, and that's all I wanted.
On his Discord on July 15th he said that an update is coming in that week. But since then he didn't say a peep. So I have no idea what he is doing right now. And honestly it's annoying. Announcing an update and then vanishing for almost a month again without releasing it.
I do find the way he works kinda strange. He's of course entitled to work how he pleases but I think just some communication with the community would be appreciated especially as people are paying a subscription. Just pin a thread to say "I'm going to be away for x months, but I'll still be working on the app."
I'm surprised too by the "big bang" approach to doing huge releases, when deploying small incremental changes is the favoured approach in the software development community. You can keep providing value and fixing bugs whilst getting constant feedback.
I paid for the Reddit version but I'm glad I didn't pay for the Lemmy version.
My subscription ended a couple weeks ago. I didn't renew it and switched to thunder to avoid ads. If sync gets good updates again, I look forward to subscribing again.
He works in bursts and will be radio silent until he pushes all he worked on. Last I heard he was implementing an include ad blocker which may have been bit more than he could (timely) chew?
Either way I kept my sub. I used the old one for years and years so he's built enough good will and I have a backlog of value.
