- Instead of sorting by gold medals and then silver then bronze, they should just give 3 points for gold, 2 for silver and 1 for bronze and compare the total

Well that's not quite fair, the brits have been colonial assholes for FAR longer than us Americans have had a chance to. Plus, neocolonialism is harder and more nuanced than just running roughshod over the natives.
