I suspect that big names like Deadpool and Wolverine will probably still get butts in the seats. But I'm not sure it will change the general burnout I hear people have been having with the superhero movie genre.
Though.. I might be a biased. Personally I never really got the appeal of going to see all these superhero movies that were getting released.
A superhero movie every now and then is fun, but I've always thought that Marvel was overdoing it quite a bit with the sheer quantity of them.
Nah, there's definitely an element of fatigue. I used to watch superhero movies pretty religiously, even renting movies I missed before watching the new avengers flick. I even went to see Infinity War day one, and it was such a shock that I remember sitting in the car in silence on the way home (though I did cue up Snow in Summer from the NieR soundtrack... IYKYK). After Endgame, though... It was like a switch flipped. I had just watched this big, amazing payoff film that celebrated nearly a decade of cinema, had highs and lows, I watched actors and characters I had followed for years giving their goodbyes... It was a big, emotional moment, and the feeling I had afterwards was like the end of Thanksgiving dinner where you've finished your slice of pie and are enjoying the warm and fuzzy feelings. In other words, I was full.
So when Marvel kept producing more movies at the same pace as before, it was like the end of Thanksgiving dinner, except now the host is starting to bring out another pie and putting a slice in front of me, and now I'm side-eyeing it and trying to find a polite excuse to say no and go the fuck home.
I agree. I would happily pay for a movie ticket to watch something that had the spirit and intelligence of Logan or Joker, but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. I'm tired of having my intelligence insulted.
I recently decided to rewatch all the Marvel movies, because I'm boring, and after Guardians it took a pretty big turn.
Going from the more gritty drama with some funny one liners ever so once in awhile, to let's see how many one liners and nonchalant comedy we can put in.
Exactly! That's what I saw as well. Like they saw how successful Deadpool was and thought we should do the same, just with less violence and vulgarity, and have them all be that way.
I really liked guardians of the galaxy. There is something about the settings and colours and everything just feels right as a standalone movie.
I rewatch it every now and then. All the other disney slop i usually turn off pretty soon, because i remember why they are bad. The last thor movies are especially weird, they are like a parody of a good movie. Love and thunder i think it was reminds me of that "meet the spartans" movie for some reason. I'm not even sure if i watched that one.
Well… I’m REALLY fucking excited for it. Absolutely loved Deadpool 1 & 2. I’m probably going to see this three times when it comes out.
But turn around the slump? Doubt it. Not on its own. It can’t hope to fix the deeper problems Marvel created for itself, like overextending on the TV shows.
Marvel basically needs to die and be reborn. And despite what the trailer says, I don’t think Deadpool’s their Jesus.
I'm interested in the movie and plan to watch it eventually but I have no desire to ever enter a movie theater again. The experience just sucks compared to home. Sorry Hollywood.
