Mauritania is culturally and politically part of the Arab world; it is a member of the Arab League and Arabic is the official language. The official religion is Islam, and almost all inhabitants are Sunni Muslims. Despite its prevailing Arab identity, Mauritanian society is multiethnic; the Bidhan, or so-called "white moors", make up 30% of the population, while the Haratin, or so-called "black moors", comprise 40%. Both groups reflect a fusion of Arab-Berber ethnicity, language, and culture. The remaining 30% of the population comprises various sub-Saharan ethnic groups.

the Sahel countries too have a significant Arab minority but aren't part of the Arab League and not included in this map.
Such a pity there are such hostile people there, would probably be a lot more tourism otherwise. Two young Scandinavian women were going hiking in the Atlas mountains and got raped and decapitated by some islamists. I'm not going near those places.
Why comment on a 23 dans old post to say this ?
Was looking through the map community and upvoted the post, but it felt necessary to point out what happened to two people that traveled to one of those places and what I feel about it.
