urbanists.social, urbanism focused Mastodon instance run by a communist
blackqueer.life, Mastodon instance for black/queer folks run by a communist
midwest.social, left-friendly Lemmy instance focused on the US midwest
Those all sound amazing
The fediverse is absolutely popping with good communities. It's why I'd prefer a blocklist rather than an allow list.
Lemmygrad.ml because i post there sometimes and don't want to maintain 2 accounts.
Neat!
lemmy.blugatch.tube - I run a small instance for myself and my friends. Registration is not open to the general public so the potential for abuse is incredibly low. I currently identify as an ancom, former shitposter on the CTH sub, and I'm here for the leftist unity!
whiskers.bim.boats - Disclaimer: I made a Hexbear account here just for this. We really like Hexbear and anonymously lurk everyday since we already run our own tiny instance with 2 active users and don't want the hassle of multiple accounts...So the comms available are basically what we look at and like (bar some lib places we subbed to for dialectical purposes). Whiskers is defederated from threads if that matters but none of us subscribe to comms on other sus/fash instances anyway. Although if there is a short list of instances with that kinda stuff we can add them too.
TL; DR: Just a few ML folks looking for some fedi left-unity.
Some akkoma instances to federate with:
snowdin.town: leftist, queer, antifascist, explicitly anti-loli/pedo/etc; actively blocks all the kind of shit we're concerned about
Outerheaven.club: Metal Gear, blocks the bad stuff
mycrowd.ca: general purpose, very anti,fascist/bigotry/pedo, blocks the bad stuff
akkow.wtf: general purpose shitposting, blocks the bad stuff
seafoam.space: general purpose chill site, blocks the bad stuff
Akkoma is Twitter/Mastodon/Pleroma style and so far most seems to have attracted very cool and active communities
lemmy.blahaj.zone is a general purpose lemmy instance for queer and gender diverse folk, and their allies. They like our pronouns feature, and they have disabled downvotes like Hexbear has.
Looks like images from lemmy.blahaj.zone show up as removed externally hosted image (see https://hexbear.net/post/306609). Can we get that domain whitelisted for images like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad.ml are?
To name another mastodon instance, I'd personally love to see kolektiva.social added. It's the biggest anti-colonial/anarchist mastodon instance sitting at 36k users and for many leftists like me it was sort of the default landing page during the very first twitter exodus. Lemmygrad federated with them as well fwiw.
union.place, labor-union focused masto instance, blocks the bad stuff, good moderation, commie friendly
How about going the block-list route instead?
Lemmy has three types of federation:
- Allowlist: Explicitly list instances to connect to.
- BlockList: Explicitly list instances to not connect to. Federation is open to all other instances.
- Open: Federate with all potential instances.
undernopretext.social is a Mastodon instance for leftist firearms enthusiasts run by seahorse, the admin of midwest.social.
adultswim.fan - new lemmy instance for Adult Swim that I've been working on
toast.ooo - running a pixel art canvas for fediverse this weekend (like a Lemmy r/place)
https://canvas.toast.ooo/
There’s a trans flag already going and stuff, could add a dope-ass bear.
fuckcars.social, akkoma instance run by one of the admins of urbanists.social
Crystals.rest; general purpose for vtubers and weebs, blocks threads
Lemmy.zip, general purpose with a slant towards tech and programming; blocks threads
Lemmy.studio, musicians instance, blocks pedo shit
Partizle.com, general purpose, blocks pedo shit
Let's break into the kbinverse.
akko.wtf - another akkoma instance
https://pricefield.org/ pretty inoffensive instance about life is strange
https://lemy.lol is a small (43 users a day) Lemmy instance that federates with Hexbear and Lemmygrad and blocks Threads. Their admin seems open to learning more about gender, and they have built off of @CannotSleep420@hexbear.net's lemmy-bot.
lemmy.sdfeu.org is from the same crowd that runs lemmy.sdf.org (just from another CDN). The latter is federated but not the first.
Any chance of linking them? They have a no defederation policy, but I can't see your posts from my main instance.
beehaw.org because
Edit: Phooey, they changed their block from www.hexbear.net to hexbear.net finally
thegarden.land: lemmy instance for gardening!
rblind.com: set up by the former mods of /r/blind, would be good for any blind/vision impaired users
kerala.party: geographic lemmy instance focused on Kerala, seems pretty active
szmer.info is the largest Polish Lemmy instance at 28 daily users, and it federates with Hexbear.
Their 7 most active communities:
pawb.social yiffit.net - furries
Reason: The internet is a greyer, duller place without them.
Pawb.social blocks Hexbear
Edit: Their post about it
Thanks!
kolektiva.social/Kolektiva is an anti-colonial anarchist collective that offers federated social media to anarchist collectives and individuals in the fediverse. It has 3,489 monthly users
voltage.vn microinstance for a guy from vietnam who posts interesting engineering content.
Hey, is there a good reason we don’t federate with https://slrpnk.net/ ? I just ask because it’s an anarchist environmentalist instance with no porn and no bigotry (that I’ve seen). I haven’t spent much time analysing it but from first impressions it looks to be both fairly active and feels like it may have users who would be more or less aligned with hexbear even if they are federated with some worse instances.
https://lemmy.bestiver.se/ is "an inclusive, SFW Lemmy instance, affiliated with the other Bestiverse sites". Its most active community, https://lemmy.bestiver.se/c/hackernews, has 583 daily users.
Their 3rd rule is "No Racists, Nazis, or Tankies", but they also federate with Hexbear and Lemmygrad, so "no tankies" probably just means no ultras
feddit.de is a German-speaking alternative, independent and self-managed space for free exchange of views, beyond the control of large tech companies. They have upgraded to Lemmy v0.19.0, meaning that their users can decide for themselves which instances to block, in the marketplace of ideas.
That is true, they would not unblock without you speaking to them. But maybe they would be more open to it now that they are on v0.19.0.
lemmy.VG is an anarchist, vegan-only Lemmy server existing to provide the vegan community safe access to the Fediverse, and they federate with Hexbear and Lemmygrad. It hosts https://lemmy.vg/c/vegancirclejerk, which has 231 daily users.
social.kernel.org to talk to Linus
preserve.games seems like a nice hobby instance to federate with.
is there a history with sh.itjust.works? I just want to subscribe to https://sh.itjust.works/c/unions for union news
edit: oop, just read the comment in the defederation nomination post. lmao nevermind
feddit.rocks is run by kavin.rocks who host piped/libreddit/nitter privacy frontends, has a bot that provides privacy links in comments
lemmings.world has a couple possibly useful bots and communities for What We Do in the Shadows and the lemmings game
https://lemmy.tf/ is Just Another Lemmy Server with 10 monthly users that federates with Hexbear and Lemmygrad. Their most active community is https://lemmy.ml/c/folkpunk@lemmy.tf where they say "Nazis punks fuck off" in their sidebar
