Calling his wife his girlfriend while drunk is the hint of infidelity. It inherently implies there's a chance that he meant to text his sidepiece.
Certainty, no, but it's absolutely a possibility.

I often refer to my wife as my girlfriend. It's cozy and it's kinda like a very vanilla form of roleplay. "Remember when we were younger, and just met"-kinda thing.
