Not really. You can by bi or pan and monogamous. If your heart decided your person was another man, it doesn't make you stop being bi or pan.
- Alternatively: they're both straight, one is a stepdad, but both feel obligations to their kid.
  I'm just glad the friend's got good and present family.
- You're overanalyzing it. The joke assumes gay or straight, obviously it breaks down if you start thinking about it but so do most jokes
