Levers and screws are types of "machine" and they exist in nature. Machines don't have to be designed.
They are probably referring to "Simple Machines": Lever, inclined plane, pulley, wedge, wheel, screw.
It's a science class thing, like I think it was that "all complex" mechanical machines are made of those basic components.
Not saying they aren't still crazy, but that's probably what they meant.
The other comments make me sad.
I mean, there are some machines that are made by happenstance in nature. For example there is a natural nuclear reactor in Gabon, formed by natural processes.
