You still had to install the game with a disc most times.
Edit: I never owned a console other than the N64. Just pc.
Not on any console older than Xbox/PS2.
I'm honestly not sure if installing a game from disc takes that much longer than waiting for the DVD to buffer. Discs were a nicer mechanism for instant play, but they were slow as hell.
Not on consoles. I just bought tony hawk pro skater 2 and popped that shit right in my ps1
Not in the cartridge era! Just pop it in and play.
