add feddit.nl to the supported links
I have an account on the feddit.nl Lemmy instance. It'd be great if links to posts and comments on this instance open in Summit.

Just to make sure I understand the request, you want to make it so when you take on a link outside of the app, that link opens Summit. Is that correct? If so unfortunately this is not possible. Google started to lock down 3rd party apps handling any links they want to. Only apps that are approved by the domain may handle apps for a specific domain. In other words, for this to actually work I would need to talk to the owner of feddit.nl, have them agree to add Summit to their list of approved apps and then give them the signature for Summit. This is a pretty tedious process so unless you know who owns feddit.nl personally I will probably not pursue this further :(.
Is that correct?
Yeah, that's what I had in mind. I didn't know it would be this much effort to implement though. Is this a new thing? Apps like Boost and Sync can be set to handle feddit.nl links.
There is some contact info on the instance's page. Would it help you if i were to contact the owner/admin?
I should add that the restrictions to link handling are added on Android 12 and up. Apps can still handle any links they want on older versions of Android. I can add link handling for that instance but this is a feature that is being phased out.
I'm in software development, but not Android/mobile app development.
Just for my understanding, and then I'll stop bothering you on this, I promise. Larger instances like lemmy.world, lemmy.ml, and some of the (probably) smaller ones like feddit.de and feddit.it are supported. At least I can select those in the "Open by default" dialog. So for those instances you did work with the instance admins to get those to work? So it's more than just adding those domains to the AndroidManifest.xml
file?
If you are curious, you can see the app link behavior documented here: https://developer.android.com/training/app-links#web-links
It's not bothersome to answer these so feel free to ask me anything.
The restrictions to link handling is only added in Android 12 and above. I added link handling for the other instances initially but because this feature is essentially getting phased out by Android I have not been updating the list.
Why not browse Lemmy from Summit directly?
I do, mostly.
But I also get links (from myself or others) to posts on feddit.nl.
