Trans Megathread for the Week of 2024-10-07 to 2024-10-13 - ETR 600

The ETR 600 is a class of trains built by Alstom, and are used on the routes between Roma-Bolzano and Roma-Trieste. The train tilts, using Pendolino technology, allowing higher speeds to be maintained through corners without causing discomfort to passengers. The trains are operated by Trenitalia, originally under the Frecciargento (Silver Arrow) branding used for trains capable of travelling between 250 km/h and 285 km/h, In 2022 they were rebranded under Frecciarossa (Red Arrow) after the Frecciargento branding was retired.

The ETR 600 has also been adapted for use in China as the China Railway CRH5 Hexie. Initially 60 sets were ordered, of which nine were manufactured by Alstom and 51 by CNR Changchun Railway Vehicles. Since, another 80 sets have been created for a total of 140, operating across China's north from Beijing to Ürümqi.

  • My favourite bit is talking to people about Manhunt. None of the lib queers wanted to talk about Manhunt, so now I can talk abt it a lil :3

    • When you roll out the list of CWs ayeaye

      • It's a very good splatter gore horror book that made me cry and feel bad and I still tear up thinking about the ending, I read it 2 years ago lol

It's so hard to recommend but I'm gonna anyway

        • I have it on my tbr for probably this week, plus a few others. I'll probably chew through those over the course of a week screm-cool Those are Fluids & Girl Flesh by May Leitz plus Cuckoo by Gretchen Felker-Martin

        • Manhunt spoiler

Like idrk Fran definitely did not deserve what she got in this one right yea

No it's worse, because when I read it I couldn't even give myself the fantasy that it could have ended any other way. Fran was doomed from the start, she committed cardinal sins against her sisters during the course of the story, it had to be her and she had to die - there was no other way the story could have gone. Now, she didn't deserve it per se, but the way the narrative could go... it was always going to be her and Beth was made of too much sheer survivor tough stuff to die

I still think about the little montage of her in different moments as Beth is unable to bury her with the sun casting it's long shadows as it sets. I can't open my copy cause I don't wanna cry but the ending line of it being like I wish I was a girl means so much to me, I'd put it on my tombstone as a shorthand for my life too

It hasn't been that long but I guess I need to reread it, again... I'm also no longer confident that I ubderstood it, imagine being a complete idiot lol lmao

I have empathy with the perspective of trans women but I wouldn't feel much on this from personal level. I always factor in other queer experiences when I'm reading something which I can empathise with but don't share the experience. I've never felt like nor wanted to be a woman.

I always have to factor in that I'll be not feeling the same things and maybe missing some points here or there, that's where reading other reviews and takes from a viewpoint that does share that perspective is helpful and helps me understand more.

The montage also includes her and Beth in very sweet, intimate (only like one is sexual lol) moments~ the whole bit where they've carried her to the grave site and dug is quite moving. And saying goodbye to a new friend, forever (not Fran). Read the book, I don't wanna spoil it all

I understand, Ash had given me a non spoilered reply to respond to your post lol as I try to avoid too many spoilers before I read/watch/consume anything but yeah um.. I haven't had to say goodbye to friends before as I've never had long term friends, closest I've come to that kind of feeling would be I cut my family out of my life but it wouldn't be quite the same. I mean if I wrote a book on my experieces people probably wouldn't fully understand and have to pull from other experiences and similar things to build a picture, and it would probably not be a particularly pleasant one.

    • I just started reading it on the plane yesterday and despite my sleep-deprived foggy brain I was enthralled with how it DOES NOT FUCK AROUND. Looking forward to finishing it while I'm on vacation.
