If you have to drive somewhere I've learned to use the app to order pickup ahead of time. Saves a huge amount of time and wasted gas, and the same pattern works regardless of your transportation method.
Mcdonald's doesn't start making your order until your phone geolocates in their parking lot. It's mildly infuriating.
I can use the "order and pay" function without location by picking the restaurant in the list.

Those can be faked relatively easily

You don't have to. You can order in the store or get delivery, you can use their app. Or you can spoof geolocation. Or you can go somewhere else or don't go at all. You dont have to do anything. If you WANT to order with their app, and they use geolocation in a way you don't like, you CAN change geolocation to fix the thing you don't like. Or you can bitch about it and not change anything.
I just go to Wendy's instead.
