All the more reason not to love them. They shouldn't even know your birthday.
I don't mind if I give them info and I get a free drink (or something like that) back. That's an exchange I'm willing to make. If they demand my info and give shit back then that's the issue.
...and nation, you have a role to the nation. It's not necessary a loving one, and part of it should be the willingness to violently protest your own nation when it turns on you.
