Considering how far into Ukraine (except in the Donbass) the Russians have advanced, despite numerical inferiority, and in just four days (including temporary ceasefires) probably Ukraine.
Kiev, Kharkiv, and Mariupol are all incredbibly close to the borders, Kiev is only 150 km from the Belarussian border, hence why getting Belarus on their side was important. It's not that they have gone far into Ukraine, it's that they just didn't need to go far in the first place to hit the major cities. If they were in Lviv, then we could say they have gone far

The war is incredibly unpopular in Russia, even the members off the communist party has come out and said that the war needs to stop. Will Russia get Luhansk and Donetsk, sure, but Russia is also in need off this finishing quickly.

This doesn't directly counter what you're saying, but I've heard their domestic media has downplayed the scale of the war, not sure what the scope and scale of this is. Support is still support though, even if it's been generated by a propaganda effort.
People essentially support what the communist parties are supporting. Defense of the breakaway republics and a withdrawal of troops from the rest of Ukraine to reenforce the legitimate territories.

MOSCOW, 27 February. Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border have not yet begun, the delegations are just arriving at the venue. This was reported to TASS on Sunday by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"Negotiations have not yet begun, the parties are only arriving at the venue," the diplomatic department said, commenting on reports that the negotiations had already started.
Earlier, the head of the Russian delegation at the talks, presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, said that on Sunday an agreement was reached with the Ukrainian side to hold talks in the Gomel region of Belarus. The Russian delegation has already left Minsk for the meeting place.
The specific meeting point of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations at the talks will not be disclosed, a TASS source said.
