I am going to be in Warsaw Chopin Airport for a layover on Friday September 8th between 7:25 A.M. and 11:10 A.M. I was wondering if there would be any time to see sights at all or for any cool restaurants. I plan to be out until about 1-1.5 hours ahead of my scheduled departure time. Even if there isn’t time for the city any locations closer to the airport would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

- Black American with Polish citizenship/ancestry - how will they get treated in Poland?
This is an automated archive made by the Lemmit Bot.
The original was posted on /r/poland by /u/snuggleswithdemons on 2023-08-05 04:49:21. *** Hi! My 3 brothers and I are working with a Polish law firm to get our dual citizenship since our grandparents are from Poland. My oldest half brother is biracial but identifies as black and is not very light-skinned. He's a little nervous about how he will be treated in Poland because of what we hear. We still have family in Poland but not many speak English and some of them have made comments about his complexion and ancestry and questioned if he was actually my mom's kid. I'm wondering how you all think a black American with Polish citizenship will get treated in Poland. I'm fully white and was embraced entirely by my cousins and relatives in Poland for what it's worth but he's worried and that has me worrying too.
Thanks for your feedback on my question and we are all excited to get our citizenship hopefully in the next 6 months. We hope to visit Poland together in the next couple of years together as siblings.

The original was posted on /r/poland by /u/Rodney_Angles on 2023-08-04 21:51:38. *** Hello all
My wife's grandfather recently passed away and I've been researching his family history for her.
He was what you might call a German Pole. He was born (and his parents, grandparents and great grandparents) in a village near Katowice in 1933. They were farmers. They spoke Swabian as their first language, and were devout Lutherans.
After WWII their farm was appropriated by the communist authorities and they moved to a refugee camp in East Germany. They emigrated to Canada on a UN Stateless Person laissez-passer in 1948, so they were definitely not German citizens.
He always called himself Silesian (rather than Polish or German) and said that the Communists had taken everything from his family, including - and this is what interests me - his citizenship.
Is that true, or was he misinformed?
Thanks very much for your help.
Rodney

The original was posted on /r/poland by /u/Diligent_Dimension24 on 2023-08-03 01:49:49. *** I recently learned that I can formally reconnect to Poland through my roots. Unfortunately, both the paternal and maternal sides of my father do not qualify me for citizenship by decent, but I think I can still qualify for the Karta Polaka.
The problem is that I am not sure what actually qualifies as “Polish Origin”. My most recent roots of Polish decent are my paternal great grandparents, but I read that modern-day Poland wasn’t established until 1918.
My great grandparents were both born and married in Poland but left Poland at different years.
My great grandfather left Poland in 1906, came back sometime later, and left again in 1912. My great grandmother left Poland in 1921.
If I qualify, could anyone share their experience with the Karta Polaka application and/or recommend any tips/material for learning Polish?☺️🇵🇱

My great grandparents were both Polish citizens, but were taken out of the country during the Second World War. My great grandparents then moved from a DP camp in Germany to Israel in 1949. My grandmother was born in the DP camp and had citizenship until she moved to Israel.
I asked Lexmotion if I was eligible for citizenship (or even if my mother is) and they said unless I get the paper signed that my great grandfather didn’t serve in the Israeli army then I’m fine.
My question now is, what would be the case if my great grandfather hypothetically served in the Israeli army, but my great grandmother did not. Would I still be eligible via her lineage or that wouldn’t work?
And what if they divorced before he served the army? Would I then (still) be eligible for citizenship via her side?
Thank you for any input!
