What to take care of when buying cheap clothes?
  • We did in the 80s when you last were culture bombed about it. The textile industry is mostly in China now, and mostly automated, including cotton harvesting. Wool has some issues but animal cruelty tends not to register with you people, but poly blend clothing, which is by far the majority of clothing produced, has less human labor than most electronics manufacturing.

  • [Epic] TerraTech
  • It's a game version of what you imagined the little Lego vehicles you pretended to create as a kid did in your imagination. It's pretty fun, kinda grindy in campaign mode, but at least worth an afternoon if you like any other vehicle building pseudo engineering game.

And yes there is multiplayer, including multi-single player where other people's vehicles invade your world. It's balanced enough that you shouldn't usually get curb stomped by them.

  • 21 December 2024
  • In 2008 they'd just use retard. It wasn't even slightly controversial of a word at that point, just like disabled isn't really now (since that differently abled nonsense euphemism failed to take off).

  • "Violence Has No Place In Politics" OH REALLY?
  • Violence is the basis of politics; as in politics is literally just deciding who we want to do violence. If some group does violence in a way we don't want, whatever social contract that did exist is broken and we need to do violence ourselves to reestablish who should be doing the violence.

  • Lemmy realtime CSAM detection tool updated in accuracy
  • CSAM is the official term for pretty much all English speaking countries and covers material not otherwise classed as pornography. It's also at least 15 years old, since that's when I started in trust and safety and it was being used in training materials then. Your country chose poorly.

  • What US based open source software should one reconsider after Jan. 20?
  • The old adage isn't just for show; if you're up against a state actor, or believe you need to secure yourself against a state actor, you're fucked.

That being said if you're not already secured against the 5/13 eyes and you think Trump makes a difference you're too naive to ever be targeted and nothing you do matters to them.

Trump makes no difference in terms of the US government attempting to breach privacy. Every anti privacy measure the US has ever pushed has been bipartisan, including the patriot act which was written by Joe Biden. You're not paranoid enough or far too paranoid.

  • Never forget
  • "lately"? This is foundational to the entirety of left wing thought.

The left starts at abolition of capitalism and by extension corporate profit. If you disagree with that, you're simply not left wing in any way, you would be better off in right wing or far right sites like reddit or Facebook. They're their product of your beliefs, stick to them.

  • Choose Wisely
  • It would be assuming we do reach post scarcity for all essential goods. There's more than enough bored people right now that would throw away the rest of their lifespan for a few months in space to fill a intra galactic space exploration organization; give those bored people all the free education they can handle and you have a successful star fleet.

You've heard of no true Scotsman, well that's compared to me, the only true Scotsman. Everything I am is all things that are forever and not, therefore the fallacy isn't.
