YSK that if Americans live outside of the US for more than 330 days a year, they don't have to pay taxes on $125,000 of their income that year
  • The US has double taxation treaties with over 60 countries. When you pay taxes somewhere else, you deduct all of that tax from your US taxes above the $125k.

Though I definitely agree the IRS shouldn't need these treaties, because if you're not living there, why should you even need to file?

  • There's no legal reason you can't do whatever you want.

There's also no legal reason for your mom and sister to let you keep living there.

The worst-case scenario is that your mother kicks you out of the house. Which, in my opinion, wouldn't be a bad thing for you if they do this because they're upset you went on a date.

    You only live once

  • Why can't lemmy mods or admins clean up dead communities like askhistorians and others? I know they have a hard job and everything but we need an active user base to make lemmy to thrive.?
  • I'll try to use a scenario to better explain the problem, but I'll admit that I don't know the solution.

Scenario: new user searches for a topic because it's important to them. The only exact match community has 17 subscribers vs many thousands on Reddit. User decides Lemmy isn't the Reddit killer (or at least not yet) and goes back to Reddit.
