  • Sure, but not exactly just delusions by Turkish nationalists. We are not talking about wanting irredentism, they have acted upon it and in places succeeded. It is not small potatoes for Armenia, Cyprus, and Syria. Goes beyond a dispute and becomes active imperial expansion albeit under modern conditions.

  • Yeah PFLP leader Khanafani lays it out in an interview like this

We consider the Arab governments of two kinds. Something we call the reactionaries, who are completely connected with the imperialists, like king Hussain, like Saudi Arabian government, Moroccan government and Tunisian government. And then we have some other Arab governments which we called the military petty bourgeois governments like, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria and so on.

  • So to my earlier comment about Khamenei being half Azeri, just a few days ago the Azerbaijani government put out a hit piece called "The Root of a Hatred" saying that Khamenei is secretly half Armenian and THAT is why he would DARE to accuse Azerbaijan of letting Israel use its territory to attack Iran like happened. https://oc-media.org/baku-again-hits-back-at-iranian-accusations-israel-used-azerbaijani-territory-to-attack-iran/

Just your casual reminder of fuck the Baku government. Iran also put out a statement this week breaking from other Muslim nations on the Organization for Islamic Collaboration's statement on Armenia and Azerbaijan's ceasefire.

A spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said Monday that his country did not approve of a statement issued last week by the Organization for Islamic Cooperation that supported Baku’s claims of a “Western Azerbaijan” state in present-day Armenia.

OIC Member states may raise issues in collective documents that do not reflect the position of each member state, Esmail Bagaei, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson said, according to the Mehr news agency.

“We have always advocated for peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Peace and security in the South Caucasus are important to us, we have good relations with these two countries,” the spokesperson said.

“At the same time, we do not approve of the use of concepts and words in that specific statement. We believe that the use of those words is not appropriate at all,” Bagaei, said most likely referring to the “Western Azerbaijan” issue embedded in the statement that was drafted and presented by Baku, during the OIC summit in Istanbul last week.

Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani on Friday said that Iran categorically rejects any claim to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia, when asked about a statement adopted last week by OIC in Istanbul, which largely parroted Baku’s claims that portions of Armenia are “Western Azerbaijan.”

“Any false and untrue wording that may reflect the territorial claims of one country to another are unacceptable to us,” Sobhani told reporters. “The use of this fabricated and false wording contradicts peaceful coexistence and good neighborliness in the region. Therefore, the use of such wording should be avoided.”

“‘Western Azerbaijan’ is the name of one of the provinces of the Republic of Iran. It cannot be used to name any other geographical area, especially if it implies any form of territorial claims,” Sobhani emphasized.

He said Iran promotes dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“We call on the [two] parties to sign a peace agreement, the provisions of which have already been agreed upon by the parties,” Sobhani said.

“We recommend that such self-proclaimed historical claims not be used to hinder the establishment of peace in the region,” Sobhani added.

The Iranian diplomat also reiterated his country’s strong opposition to the scheme initiated by Baku to create a so-called land “corridor” through Armenia that would connect Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan.

“The corridor, which is called ‘Zangezur,’ does not stem from the interests of Armenia and Iran. For us this is a ‘red line.’ We have repeatedly stated this and continue to adhere to this position,” Sobhani stressed, adding that Iran does not intend to deviate from its red lines.

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada hit back at Sobhani on Saturday, calling his remarks “false” and an effort to appease Armenia.

“The ambassador’s statements are especially dangerous because they contradict the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was expressed at the meeting of foreign ministers in Istanbul,” Hajizadah claimed.

“The aim of Ambassador Sobhani’s regular and systematic provocative anti-Azerbaijani statements is to undermine relations between Azerbaijan and Iran,” the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman insisted.

we need that "Azerbaijan cool" emote please.

  • It is difficult to be certain of their number, and reported figures have varied. For the pro-Jewish group of deserters, one article put the number at twelve, while a Jewish veterans’ association estimated that there were around 20. 2 We have identified 17 deserters by name, all of whom joined the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). The pro-Arab deserters were more dispersed, with individuals joining the irregular Palestinian Arab militia al-Jihad al-Muqaddas (Holy War Army), led by Abd al-Qadir al-Husseini and Hasan Salama, as well as the Arab Liberation Army (ALA), a force established by the Arab League, with Fawzi al-Qawuqji as its main commander. 3 Deserters were also witnessed fighting with Transjordan’s professional and effective force, the Arab Legion, commanded by the seconded British officer, John Bagot Glubb.4 A low estimate of this pro-Arab group of deserters was put at 53,5 while the highest estimate set their number at around 200.6 After analysing numerous reports on and mentions of these pro-Arab deserters, a figure of between 100 and 200 spread across all three forces seems correct.

  • Mandatory Palestine was effectively a 3 sided civil war. Groups like the Irgun committed terrorism upon the British Mandate the "Palestine Police" who are colonial cops effectively, because they felt the Mandate was going to create an eventual pluralistic state. The Palestinians and other Arabs began militarizing in response to several massacres by Jewish settlers. Over a hundred British police, many being conscripts stationed there, joined the Arabs or the Zionists

Some for very overtly antisemitic reasons though, like those of the British League - Palestine Branch which was an off-shoot of Mosely's British League of Fascists. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/2739222

You also had professional British soldiers like Glubb and his Arab Legion which officially served Transjordan and fought against the Zionists in the 48 war. Glubb is cool, he and his wife adopted a Bedouin girl and then adopted two Palestinian children orphaned in 1948. His white biological son converted as soon as he was of age, and was part of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Oman, and other leftist Arab-Omani organizations. It is funny how the "going native" stereotype simplifies things in such a way that it can ignore or dismiss British people who genuinely felt a shared humanity with Britain's subjects/victims.
