  • Some virus

Iirc the increase in pandemics has been an expected result of global warming.

For my money, there are three existential threats to the human species. You've already listed two: global warming and nuclear war. IMO the third is microplastics (although PFAS could be combined with microplastics to make a category I think we could reasonably call "forever chemicals")

  • I would LOVE to see this prosecuted, not because I want people who are hurting from the loss of a pet to be hurt more, but because not enough people consider raw milk dangerous and they really should. Even if the punishment was super small (because these people obviously didn't understand what they were doing) it would hopefully help prevent future incidents.

  • It's good to be da king

  • It's not the employees' fault, saying they should get no sympathy is a dick move.

That aside, I agree the TSA is a great example of the kind of spending that needs cut and the department dissolved.

  • But the disturbing thread running through all these requests is how easy it’s become for copyright trolls to leverage the DMCA to intimidate providers

I remember this issue being pointed out by the more vocal critics of the dmca when the bill was working its way through Congress. They warned that "remove first, ask questions later" would be abused by corporations in this exact manner with effectively no recourse for people who can't afford a lawyer for every single time there victimized by a wrongful takedown request.

And here we are, decades later, and it's been a problem this whole time.

  • The more things Trump's administration has to remove, the longer it'll take for him to remove them. That's the logic behind people wanting stuff like this as a means of resisting the fascist takeover. Is it good logic? I dunno, but it's better than not resisting at all I guess

  • I hate him saying "get your mind out of the gutter" as if even thinking about people who are gay is itself a perverted sexual act.

Gay people exist. Acknowledging this and discussing whether a piece of media is directed at them is not "mind in gutter" stuff.

I don't want to go so far as to say this person is homophobic, but it sure does sound like some internalized homophobia, perhaps.

  • Number 5 is "are willing to accept any negative info about Trump as fact"

Saying "you voted for a rapist" does nothing because they refuse to believe he's a rapist. They hand wave it away with conspiracies about witch hunts and the deep state.

You can't shame somebody over something they don't believe is true.

  • This is not what I meant, there are actual (but very VERY small) differences between male and female brains, and we're able to measure those differences. See my response to the other person for links to studies demonstrating this.

  • The difference between make and female brains is very VERY small, but it's not immeasurable. The critical point is that the differences seem to be exclusively concerning 1) the brain's "map" of the busy, ie the brain is wired for certain hardware, and 2) reproductive instinct.

But even those areas are not 100% predictable, ie everything is a spectrum.

Here are a few studies demonstrating what I mean.

The brains of trans people more closely resemble those of their chosen gender identity than their natal sex https://www.ese-hormones.org/media/1506/transgender-brains-are-more-like-their-desired-gender-from-an-early-age.pdf

A trans person's brain more closely resembles their chosen gender as demonstrated by their brain's response to olfactory stimulation with androstadienone https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fendo.2014.00060/full

Estrogen signaling pathways identified which tell the brain to develop as one gender or the other, as well as mechanisms by which physical development can happen in one way while brain development can happen in the other https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-019-53500-y
