  • I always thought this metaverse crap was just an obvious money-making scheme that preyed on isolated people during COVID-19. They only started developing their metaverse platforms during the pandemic. Of course they all failed to capitalize because the world largely returned to normal while they were still flaunting NFTs and unfinished metaverse platforms that still can't do better than a private Minecraft SMP with your friends.

  • "Just use Wine! Just run it in a virtual machine!"

  • That's valid. I was thinking more about the nuisances on Tik Tok who peddle straight-up health disinformation.

  • That's pretty interesting. This could be the basis of a new weight-loss drug that works by limiting calorie absorption rather than regulating hunger cues.

I'm going to be mildly annoyed if the fat acceptance latches on to this as yet another study validating their belief that they can't lose weight.

  • I may have jumped the gun and been sloppy in my phrasing. Let my clarify. I do think that OOP's rhetoric could have been construed as trolling. They are tying Luigi's current innocence as a suspect under trial with their assertion that Luigi didn't shoot and kill. It's not a sound argument.

  • Given that phrasing, I think it's fair for the moderators to act on that comment. We're all quite sure that Luigi Mangione did kill Brian Thompson. We are simply waiting for the courts to determine the crimes he is guilty of. He is innocent by law for the time being. That's not the same as flat-out saying Luigi didn't kill him.

  • I still haven't gotten good at intentionally having lucid dreams. I tend to have them when I get sleep paralysis in the morning and then ride out the funny sensations until the dream starts.

  • They really messed up when the whole squad got together for that photo op. That's a powerful image.

  • The bar is pretty low, but yeah. At least Google provides a pretty good email service. I can't have the same confidence in a Musk product.

  • Let me remind you that this will be under the same guy who made his employees yank out server machines and transport them in an unprofessional and insecure manner. Your data would be unsafe with him in more than one way.

  • This seems relevant to the current situation involving the death of the UnitedHealthcare CEO.

  • Did he actually cast the spell? I think he needs to find a cop and shout the arcane words at them.

  • Thank you lemmy

  • This is bait but I'll get on my little soapbox. This social media tribalism is weird. Just use whatever websites suit your needs. You can even use more than one!

  • In short, lab-grown cannot realistically replace a significant portion of the meat industry, for a variety of reasons. First of all, it's far too expensive and doesn't scale well because so much active machinery is required at each step in the manufacturing process. There are also issues regarding infected vats and if the cells' nutrition compares to that of natural meat.

At least it's possible in theory? I'm glad we're that far. But it clearly isn't going to happen at a large enough scale for lab-grown meat to start appearing at grocery stores.

  • Things rich people do to cope with hardship:

    • Prayer
    • Fasting
    • Earning more money in a year than you'll make in your entire lifetime
  • That's right. My issue with traditional Chinese medicine is in how anti-science / alternative medicine advocates in North America fetishize it. It gets characterized as mysterious ancient wisdom that somehow works and doesn't need explaining.

  • Another already? They just made a Creeper World game 4 years ago and I haven't gotten around to finishing the campaign yet.

  • I gave the first Armored Core a try and played a few missions. The movement is rather clunky coming straight from the buttery smooth Armored Core 6. However, the other systems seem pretty robust for the first game in the series.

  • They think I'm not paying attention when I look at the other monitor. Video calls are second screen content.

  • I have to keep using Firefox for the mobile add-ons and because my account is synced with my desktop browser. I'm not willing to switch unless a better desktop/mobile pair comes along.
