Security Issues in Matrix’s Olm Library (Including ongoing discussion)
  • Many years ago, security meant association with groups powerful enough to ensure it.

As the simple field sabotage methods applied to open source projects reach their culmination, consider ensuring that any security you rely on is backed up by that old concept.

  • Well I'm fucked
  • Go into bios and see if it recognizes the drive

If not then replace or reseat the two cables that provide power and data bus to the drive and try again.

If the bios sees the drive then use a windows environment to make sure the efi/mbr is working okay. This can be a multi step process. Medicat usb has a windows environment and here’s the Michael Dell company on the step by step process.

To recover data: have some device to put data on. Have some way to boot the computer like the medicat usb I linked earlier. Boot off your usb and pull everything from the /users/ directory. Unless you’re hiding sailor moon porno in /system32 then you’ll be fine with that.

    Reply if you need help.

  • Was nobody gonna tell me that Elton John actually slaps
  • Goodbye yellow brick road was always the one I’d point people at. Just about the only lame song is candle in the wind and you get past that on side 1 but it’s sandwitched by funeral for a friend and Benny and the jets.

  • Classic rock hate thread
  • As a radio programming format, yeah.

As music it’s pretty good. Even the band I bounce off of the most, kiss, has some cool stuff that never made it big and is fun to listen to.

Weirdly the thing that saves the music from the terrible clear channel/I heart radio format is the other stuff on the format it was released as.

  • I switched to Linux!
  • Qemu is the virtualization software on the backend. When you have a problem you can look it up like that and find lots of help. Virt-manager is the front end you can control it with.

Once you made a vm profile or whatever, there’s an option way down at the bottom in virt-manager that lets you pick devices to directly pass on to the virtualized system.

The only thing I’d suggest is making sure you have enough ram to block out some decent amount for your windows vm. Ten “will” boot up with just two gigs but I ended up allocating eight to it so it could actually run updates and function.

  • I switched to Linux!
  • Oh you’re tied to ankerwork huh?

I had a similar situation a while ago. Added some ram to the workstation and ran the software in a qemu vm. You can pass through the device directly to the virtual windows install. I did it with an industrial cnc mill before it had complete Linux support.

  • Should there be a Linux comm on hexbear?

@makotech222@hexbear.net made a really good thread to help people deal with windows 11. I learned from it.

A bunch of people started posting about Linux in that thread.

Sometimes a good judge of if there’s enough interest to have a community is if people are talking about it in threads where it’s off topic.

Would it help to have a Linux comm?
