  • Yes, but customs can still compel you to unlock your phone as we have recently seen with the Norweigan tourist who was denied entry due to having a JD Vance meme on his phone.

I would recommend having a separate phone with non-important data on it to take with you to the US, or have a self hosted cloud service that you can backup your data to before wiping your device.

You essentially don't have rights at the border (or in general with the current US government).

  • Quick question about rendering the fat. In the point of the brisket specifically, there is a middle layer of fat that is very hard to render due to its location. What is the best solution for rendering that out, especially when cooking at such a high temperature and such a low amount of time compared to smoked brisket?

  • Yes, not centuries. When large societies were formed with trade amongst strangers becoming more common, money and/or ledgers were created to keep track of specific amounts of debts and credits. There was also never a point in time in which bartering was the primary system of economics.

Bartering was never the primary source of trade, and in prehistory, gift economies and sometimes loose concepts of debt occurred, while bartering was limited to potentially just strangers and enemies. The prehistory section is quite interesting here.

It seems that after prehistory during the formation of agriculture, instead of going to a barter based economy, "ledgers" were kept instead, which introduced the concept of debt and credit.
