Rhythm of Resistance, a rhythm-based metroidvania, is announced for release on PC in 2026

  • That’s my description. The mechanic is something I haven’t heard of before. It may be gimmicky, but we’ll see…

HOTEL BARCELONA, a rougelike metroidvania from the creators of Deadly Premonition and No More Heroes, is announced for a 2025 release on PC, Playstation, and Xbox

  • It seems like it, but isn’t crystal clear. The Steam listing has “online co-op” listed, but Artplay doesn’t talk about it in their press. I’ve seen other places highlight it, but they could be mistaken.

Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, the sequel to the Castlevania-inspired metroidvania hit, is announced for PS5 with co-op in 2026

  • Thanks! How are you viewing it when you use Lemmy? In a browser? Voyager? Curious as I don’t think playback is consistent across platforms.

Synth Beasts, a Pokemon-inspired monster collecting metroidvania, just launched their Kickstarter and released a demo

  • The Early Access reviews are “mostly positive”, so here’s to hoping they iron out the kinks. I like the style, but will be cautiously optimistic until I see the final reviews.

Nintendo released a gameplay trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and committed to a 2025 release date

  • Last year felt like the best year for releases, and this year has a ton of bangers already and may end up beating 2024.

There are some great releases on the horizon. I’m about to post about the new Metroid and the dystopian Pac-Man metroidvania.

    Good times.

  • I was surprised by the focus on Ultros, but not Animal Well. That game is already one of the genre’s hallmarks. I liked Ultros, but know it’s not for everyone. Animal Well isn’t as traditional an entry, but a smash hit.

  • Yeeeaaahhh…🧐 I think that snake isn't alone. Some of the other screenshots feature some mamajamas.

  • Out of curiosity, if someone posts a YouTube link and you auto play the video, what gets shared with YouTube?

  • I’d love Apollo-level inline video playing.

    Keep up the great work!

  • And this is just a sample. I think people have cataloged boss animations, etc

  • 😏 If you think this is bad, you should see Deviator. It literally stole sprites from HK.

  • Those, and for me, Possesor(s) (because I loved their first game, Hyper Light Drifter), and MIO (because if Nintendo showcased it, it’s likely good)

  • According to folks who played the demo during Steam Next Fest, it was pretty good. 🤞🏻

  • Happy to participate in a post. I'm also wanting to do a "Best of '24" in a few months.

    1. Hollow Knight
    2. Ori 1
    3. Ori 2
    4. Prince of Persia: Lost Crown
    5. Super Metroid
    6. Nine Sols
    7. Animal Well
    8. BioGun
    9. HAAK
    10. Guacamele 2

4 & 6-8 are from just this year, so it's been a good year for me.

  • Agreed. I'm working on the Prince of Persia DLC, and then switching to the new Zelda…

  • I have not. I see it getting decent reviews (80-85%-ish). Between this and other high profile releases, I think it'll be in my backlog
