A Practical opsec guide – looking for feedback & suggestions

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/25679666

I recently put together a detailed opsec guide that covers practical steps for reducing your digital footprint, securing communications, and avoiding common pitfalls people make when trying to stay private online.

The goal was to create something that's actually useful and not just the usual "use a vpn and tor" advice. I tried to break down realistic methods that can help both beginners and people already familiar with opsec.

Id love to get some feedback from the community - what's missing, what could be improved, and if there's anything you disagree with.

    Thanks for the great work!

Point to consider - you might want to stop mass banning people from dubvee if you're hosting the main tesseract comm there? I'm not sure why a few comments about supporting Luigi have any relevance to me not being able to provide feedback or engage in discussion there.

Anyway, just noting a bug I've been seeing the last couple days (so presumably this release since I'm using the dubvee frontend). When scrolling to the end of existing content and loading new content, the feed occasionally 'jumps' forward multiple screens. If I scroll back up far enough I can find where I was when it loaded and jumped. It's inconsistent, but I suspect it has something to do with browsing on 'All' and blocking comms. I'd open another github issue, but I'm on mobile right now which makes that a hassle.

Edit: Just realised that seeing as he instance-banned me from dubvee, he's probably never going to see this comment. Oh well, c'est la vie. 🤷‍♂️

Ask Mozilla: Bring back Do Not Track

    cross-posted from: https://mander.xyz/post/24524978

https://blog.mozilla.org/en/mozilla/advertisers-and-publishers-adopt-and-implement-do-not-track/ Mozilla introduced the Do Not Track feature in January 2011 and other major web browsers soon did the same. With the Do Not Track preference enabled, when a user attempts to connect to a website, a Do Not Track signal is sent as a part of the header which is sent during the connection attempt. A website which obeys Do Not Track requests is able to act on the user's choice before loading a webpage.

A website which obeys a Do Not Track signal value of "true" can use this setting positively in multiple ways.

    a) https://lemmy.world/post/22974927 More than 15 analytics tools can be conveniently configured by a website operator to obey Do Not Track signals.

  • Thank you for the update as always!

Therefore I am looking at the possibility of having new accounts have some “default blocks”, i.e. blocking hexbear and lemmygrad (as two suggestions) upon account creation. All new accounts should receive a PM from ZippyBot upon creation with some information on how to use the site, and so a section on removing these blocks (which can be done in the account settings like a normal instance block) would be added to that PM and I’d probably create a post with specifics on how to do this on the various front-ends too.

    That would be great!
