  • I've always thought I was mildly allergic to some brands of toothpaste, wonder if this was related.

My symptoms were sores in the corners of my mouth/gums - took a couple weeks before they'd show up and the only way to get them to go away was heavy rinsing with water after brushing (which is not recommended because of fluoride mineralization)

Switched to Tom's toothpaste (with fluoride) a few years ago and have had 0 issues since

  • Yeah, there's something called Emudeck, it makes setup super easy. Even comes with tools to add emulated games into your steam library to launch like a regular game.

There is this one funky caveat - the PlayStation and Switch games I emulate didn't run very well, after some research I found out that lowering the CPU cores helps a ton. And it did, they run great for me now. To do that I had to install a Deck extension called Powertools - super easy to do because Emudeck came with a user interface to install plugins, Powertools included. Anyway, with Powertools you turn off this thing called SMT and then can lower the CPU cores. Some people think it's actually a bug in emulation or Steam Deck drivers because using less cores shouldn't have a big impact on performance so it may not be necessary in the future.

Tons of video examples on YouTube make the install and setup super easy. Highly reccomend setting emulation up, I've been playing through games I never finished as a kid and it's been great. The convenience makes it awesome

  • We're competative I suppose. Grew up playing and nothing ever replaced it. There's probably other arcade games we'd enjoy but the closest we've come was the Tetris Effect - but we haven't picked that up again for a while. Tricky is one of those games that has a huge skill difference between being good and actually practicing. It's fun, a bit janky - maybe it's just what we know. My brother has a couple high scores on my steam deck and writing this has inspired me to go spend some time trying to beat them lol

  • Thanks for the ideas! Solarpunk might not be a great fit for him as he tends to fall towards the "climate change is a hoax" side of things. He even once said to me that we (humans) are supposed to use up the world's resources because god gave us dominion over the world (I knew dominion over animals, but the whole world?) - and I guess using all the world's resources might bring about the second coming for some reason... With that being said, I'm very intrigued by the genre!

Discworld probably would be a great series for him. I've only read The Colour Of Magic - I might try and find a standalone-ish entry for him

A Canticle for Leibowitz is probably my first choice for him right now

  • Full front and back fenders are a must for me. I also have a poncho made for biking and it's kept me dry in HEAVY rain. My poncho was expensive, think it was called "the people's poncho" but I love it. Even keeps my legs dry, and the hood can go over my helmet - but I don't love doing that cause I feel like I can't hear or see much and it doesn't feel as safe.

Just got our first snow this week so I just put my studded tires and pogies on!

  • Thanks for the help! Smoothed things out a bit, but Call of the Dead is still unplayable. But it's definitely because of the wild FPS swings I get on the map. Seems like it's related to where I'm looking. From spawn, looking towards where jug is, my FPS drops to 20 or lower sometimes. Doesn't affect walking speed, or anything really when using a controller. But mouse and keyboard are borked.

Maybe someday the performance of that map will be fixed. I tried a few proton versions without any improvements. For now, I'll just use a controller. A bit annoying that the PC version has no aim assist for controller...

Basically seeing the same issue as this thread

  • I'm leaveling up all my familys' favorite ssx tricky characters cause otherwise we all play as Moby when I visit (the only character I play as normally). Mac, Kaori, JP. Probably won't be unlocking uber-boards on all of them, but we'll see

  • Recently played Uncharted Legacy of the Thieves on my steam deck and loved it. Picked up the tomb raider games this week (on sale) in hopes that they have a similar feel (single player story adventure)
