With GPL, you're programming Freedom. With MIT, you're programming for free.
  • I don't get the whole MIT vs GPL rivalry. They both have their uses. If you want to use GPL, go for it. And if you want something like MIT that works too.

Thankfully both exist because I think we definitely need both.

How to avoid being shadowbanned on redd it ?
  • You can also get shadowbanned on a specific sub. But I'm guessing OP is asking about sitewide

  • The Majestic Birth of Graphical User Interfaces – Xerox Alto and the Alto Trek game
  • And yet I still spend most of my time in a Linux terminal

  • Cookie experiments
  • I feel like this post might be too interesting to qualify for this community!

  • Why don't we treat the sin of gluttony with the same seriousness as some other sins?

A question posted on another forum, but I thought it might be good to discuss here. Do you think it's true? And if true, why might that be?

How do we best reach the next generation with the gospel?
    1. Boomers and GenXers don't like that, either. So we haven't done anything like that in many years.

    2. That's an excellent sugguestion. And I've learned that it's much better to join what people are already doing in the area, rather than replicate it or start something new as a church that is already being done by others in the same city.

  • How do we best reach the next generation with the gospel?

It's becoming more and more apparent that the next generation is different than Boomers and GenXers. And our methods of evangelism and outreach may not be actually reaching Millennials and Gen Z.

So what does your church do or what ideas do you have to reach them with the gospel?

    Parius - Arecibo
  • Acid Lakes is definitely a great song too.

I don't think there's a single bad song on the whole album. They're all at least 'good' and most of them are 'great' songs in my estimation.

  • Parius - Arecibo

The whole album is fantastic. But this is the best song IMO

More US auto buyers are turning to hybrids as sales of electric vehicles slow
  • Sales have slowed because dealers are selling above MSRP still.

  • Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating?
  • It depends. I ruined my Teflon, but my cast iron is great. Mostly I just hate plastic spatulas.

  • Is it safe to use pans with peeling nonstick coating?
  • Cast iron is non-stick and so much easier to clean

  • Bridge between US and Canada closed following explosion. (Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls)
  • It's those sneaky Canadians trying to steal our jobs!

  • Heroism
  • Euthanasia is for people who want to die. Not for murdering babies with special needs.

  • Heroism
  • No, I just actually care about people with special needs and don't want to murder them. I have a special needs kid and I know plenty of other kids with special needs who are very happy to be alive and happy that they have parents that love them and didn't try to murder them when they were babies.

What you suggest is eugenics and it's rightly thought of on the same level as the Holocaust. It's abhorrent.

  • Heroism
  • Yikes. Why is this being up voted here?

Translation: let babies who are likely to have developmental issues die.

  • Metallica - Ride The Lightning [America, 1984]
  • Always gotta up vote this song. Classic metal at its finest.

  • Observations from an owl banding event
  • When I was young I used to go out every Saturday with my dad and a guy that was part of a bird banding group. We mostly caught warblers and chickadees and a few others line that.

I learned how to hold birds, band them, untangle them from the nets, and all about their personalities. It was so much fun getting to hold wild birds and track their migratory patterns.

Many birds we would see on the same week every year. It's amazing.

I think they're way more strict about who can hold or untangle birds now. So I feel even more privileged to have gotten to participate as a kid (teenager).

  • Oh I never tried using the mouse with Harmony. I'm not even sure I knew that was possible.

  • Harmony was how I controlled my HTPCs. But once I moved from MythTV to Plex, I just started using Roku or Google TV frontends. They just worked so much more reliably and were super cheap.

  • Let's just step into a torrential flood

Is there a way to hide a community I moderate from showing up on all or local?

I run a few niche communities that would benefit from not being visible when people browse local or all. Is this possible?
