  • I am not sure I agree that the old rule was replaced. Before, the oligarchs ruled from the shadows by controlling political campaign finances and lobbyists. But now, the oligarchs are so powerful they are ruling directly. The country is still heading in the same direction (relentless growth of power disparity between the rich and power) just at a quicker pace.

FDR was the last US president that fought for the working class. Every President since Reagan has overseen policies that have weakened the working class and transfered power to the rich. Republicans were far more aggressive about it, but liberals still did it at a slower rate.

  • We're all slaves to the billionaires under capitalism. It is a slightly more ethical type of slavery, but ultimately we still do the bidding of the wealthy and we sacrifice the best years of our lives to build their financial empires

  • More like a global depression that governments won't admit was a depression because the economy is completely shareholder centric with very little consideration for workers. New grads did the occupy Wallstreet protests because they spent multiple years unable to find a job. It was a nightmare that destroyed the lives of countless working class people

  • Doubtful. I applied to something like 300 Easy Apply job ads on LinkedIn without a single interview or response from an employer.

The job market is super fucked at the moment. My interview rate for application with custom resumes and cover letters was only 5% and even then it took me 30 interviews to get a single offer (600 applications). Unfortunately, my job offer was for a federal position that was then immediately cut as soon as Emperor Elon took over.

  • Jesus, that is even worse than a "let them eat cake" moment. This would be like Marie Antoinette eating cake in front of the starving peasants and then saying "be grateful for the opportunity to watch me eat cake!"

What happened to us? When did our spirits become so broken that the rich figuratively spit in our face and we thank them for it?
