  • It's always about creating precarity for an underclass and dividing the working class. Deportation will probably be a little worse than business as usual. Based on the numbers I found online, it looks like Trumps first term in office was slightly lower than Obama which matches with my memory.

There's really no way that he'd deport more than half a million people a year. I'd expect it to be more border fascism and telling Texas to drown every immigrant in the Rio Grande.

That last sentence knocked me out of my alienated detachment and now I feel like shit knowing it's basically true and going to happen regardless of president anyway.

  • "She's too woke and progressive. Why? Because she's DEI coded." Something we'll enjoy hearing for the next few months.

Kamala hasn't even had the time to articulate how she'd be different from Biden and Americans are so fucking brain broken from the media that they can't formulate real logical opinions about the world.

  • Some babies don't cook right, especially if they're early. They become little potato people. Usually just need to give them a few weeks and let them grow out a little and they'll be adorable like the rest of the babies.

  • I would like to ask the critics, would you build it for us?

The west had over 100 years to develop these countries including when they were almost directly governed by the west as colonies and they only ever got what could be used for raw resource extraction. China builds one fucking railroad and they're basically turned into Satan. Ultimately, who else is going to help them? Certainly not the Great Satan.

  • Come on man, whomst among us isn't bad at their job sometimes? It's just a partial global collapse of IT infrastructure. Nobody's perfect.

But yeah you are right that this is a systemic issue. Corporations have no problems cutting corners and destroying processes that ensure quality products are released. "Move fast and break things" came out in full force.

  • I didn't read the article, but would it be fair to say the Republicans are going back to old school Tammany Hall style corruption without the political instincts and ruthlessness to win? Like for a while Trump was bringing the country back to bribery with big bags of money style corruption and the democrats are staying with neoliberal lobbying and jobs for failsons corruption.

  • The phrase "expansionist defense policy" from the article has that same kind of feeling as when the Department of War became the Department of Defense. It's not jingoism or even militarism anymore it's expansionist defense policy.

But yeah, pretty soon it will be undeniable to everyone that the US military is a joke. The current embarrassment in the red sea is going to be just one of many because, as the article sort of points out, we are going to have two sets of military hardware: the old stuff that's shit because it can't be properly maintained anymore and the new stuff that doesn't work because of various kinds of grift making it unreliable or near useless. I don't even know if the good ol' US of A will be able to properly invade another country that isn't like Grenada again.

  • Important to remember that polls aren't literally real and that only so much can be learned from literally the first polls taken after the attempted assassination. If this were a poll two weeks after then we would have had time to see a change happen but it'll likely be mixed up with the rnc convention affecting it. So, it's really inconclusive and we'll have to look at the trend later.

Basically what I'm saying is give people like my dumbass brother time to melt their brains with Facebook conspiracies and memes about how Trump took that bullet to protect the American people.

Also, motivating your people to show up and vote is what really matters anyway and that's hard to predict.

  • Seems like every major assassination on a president that failed has been a Republican and they went on to dominate their elections.

John Wilkes Booth really did have to kill one of the only good American presidents. Lincoln died but Reagan and Trump get to live? Really?
