Essentially a very large faucet
  • I kept scrolling in Lemmy, saw a post in politics talking about it, but thanks. I can't say I'm surprised, but I'm amazed that people are willing to vote for someone so obviously stupid. I understand there's a certain element of anti-intellectualism, but this is gradeschool knowledge we're talking about.

  • We really need to mark if Trump memes are real or made up. I hadn't heard that he said this, but I can totally believe it. I just don't have time to fact check every meme to know if I should be laughing or terrified that there's a potential or former leader who believes stuff like this.

Granted, both options are valid with Trump.

  • Letters to the Editor: Your 'protest vote' for Jill Stein is really a vote for Donald Trump
  • So your solution is to try harder within the current system, like many others have done for the last 50 years, but this time it will be different! If the problem is with the system, work on changing the system while achieving the best you can until the system has changed. Who you vote for in this election won't have any impact on the system. This will require a different approach. Vote for who you like, but don't fool yourself that this will make anyone with power change their stance or plan. Your actions are part of the system working as intended.

  • If it was really smart, it would let you set what you're willing to sell energy at, then when the utility company says "we're paying x, take it or leave it," the system can say "leave it" until they decide to pay more. They aren't buying from you because there isn't a need, so why should you be paid low-demand prices?

  • Do you think that technology will help with social media drug and encourage socializing more? Could this process be reverted?
  • While this is true to a degree, there also seems to be indications that some people are more susceptible to addictive behavior than others, so some will only be inclined towards addiction if their circumstances are bad enough to make it more attractive.

I suspect this is similar to smoking causing cancer. Sure, it will likely shorten your life and cause cancer, or you can be like George Burns and smoke regularly for over 70 years.

Ultimately, it's hard to know how susceptible you are to addiction (or smoking-related cancer) until you've taken the chance.

  • So they would have to have a white-list for Ukraine and a process for getting on the white-list. That doesn't seem that complicated. Somewhat intensive, sure, but a very simple solution. And I would think militarily advantageous equipment would be more controlled in a war zone than normal.

  • Geolocation is very different when you use an omnidirectional antenna passively listening to multiple signals rather than a directional antenna connecting to a satellite for a bidirectional communication session. And all of this ignores the simple fact there are sanctions against some countries and a war going on in another. They are the seller of their antennas and could easily limit who is allowed to change the region of their antenna to work in the white-list zone. Starlink knows the exact equipment I bought from them, and they will know if I move it, and if I change ownership to another person (who actually uses it). Yes, none of this can happen without some administrative or programming work, but that's the case for many companies if they don't want to break the law.

  • What's you take on single women having IVF children and the effect of those future fatherless adults into society?
  • That's the difference between my first and second marriage in a nutshell. Moving away (psychologically, not physically) from all the horrible shit I grew up with and thinking that was normal to having a better understanding of what I want to have in my life and some idea of how to get there.

  • Who downvotes the MediaBiasFactCheck bot?
  • I could buy this. Also, the fonts are very jarring and intrusive. I rarely want to view what's behind the spoiler tag, just give me a line for bias and a line for credibility, no need to be bold and a smaller font if anything, and hide the rest behind the spoiler tag if I'm interested. I already know where MBFC's bias is, and I can adjust that to get an idea that when they say left, I think center or maybe left-center.

All of that seems pretty reasonable to me, but not if your goal is advertising...

  • There are some linked articles that provided more information. The superintendent was fired days before a pride parade that was promoted by the division and the MMF. There are a number of conflicting claims surrounding his dismissal, which will probably get ironed out in court. The usual reason for banning flags is the suppress the promotion of something you don't like, otherwise taste and relevance would be sufficient. Someone needs to start finding perfectly legitimate flags to be flown that don't meet their criteria, such as city flags, sister city flags, flags for Saskatchewan in towns near the border, etc., until the rule is made to look completely absurd or they say out loud exactly what they are bigoted against. If nothing else, it will tie them up dealing with inane topics so they don't have as much time to do more harmful things.

My guess, based on the related articles, is that they want to ban the MMF and/or pride flags.
