As an American, I would also say the most loud and relentless proclaimers about our democracy are also our right wing voters. Nationalism is a hell of a drug. I wouldn't necessarily say it's only our politicians. I went to school with people who unironically would start USA chants.

We have had enough of the system. But it's a big country. You can't just walk down the street to the White House to end up getting curb stomped by militarized police. While your family at home starves because you stopped working for a day.

Also with voting, one party is sending a fascist religious cult. If one person tries to do a third party vote, that takes away a vote from the other main party that has the highest odds of winning. It would have to be everyone is doing it all at the same time. But it would be much more likely that the fascist wins while everyone realigns. Do you really want to take that chance?

I've never really felt the urge to have kids. Plus it saves on resources and finances. I have nephews and nieces already and that's good enough for me. I'm at the point where some of my friends are having kids. Others aren't. I love being an uncle.

In any case, it depends on how much you as an individual want to have kids. For me, it just didn't add up. My wife and I both don't want them. We both work and want to retire as early as possible.
