How to search for 3m command hook-hooks on an STL website?
  • Thirded

I assume 3M makes those inserts for their hooks because it’s difficult to mass-produce cheap hollow objects with a firm flat back.

    We don’t have that problem.

I have stuck all manner of things to the wall with command strips — power strips, 3D-printed hooks, boxes.. whatever has a flat back works fine.

  • A Black man got a job interview after he changed the name on his resume. Now, he’s suing for discrimination | CNN
  • The problem is that sending in a resume and applying for a job takes effort. If you invite people to spend time and effort and mental energy to get a thing (job) when you know you won’t give it to them, then you are wasting their time and effort and mental energy, which I can tell you as somebody who fucking hates looking for jobs, that mental energy can be in serious short supply for people looking for work.

That “fresh pile of resumes” is definitely good for you when you want it, but the giant stale pile of resumes that you keep throwing away is not free for the people sending them in.

  • Google's AI search feature suggested using glue to keep cheese sticking to a pizza
  • 11-year-old posts are fine. It’s not like pizza-cooking techniques become obsolete; if there’s old wisdom I still want it.

It’s just, you know, better not to quote shitposts, you know?

This thing where search engines only want new results is actually quite bad. I was looking for advice on exactly how to physically arrange the wiring and connections for some batteries in parallel. SearXNG gave me great results that were really helpful from electricians posting on old forums of varying age. DDG and Google only gave me bullshit SEO sites. But they were new!

  • Despair makes young US men more conservative ahead of US election, poll shows
  • Feminism absolutely arrived because women made themselves a source of trouble.

I just came back from the National Park at Seneca Falls NY about women’s liberation. Women are even still today working for equal rights, and women’s right to vote came after 70 years of activism and fight.

We will get improvements to housing, wages, health care, and every other good action we need from our leaders and wealthy powerful society, when we make it more uncomfortable for them to keep helping themselves than to change and help the rest of us — and not one minute before.

  • The drug war devastated Black and other minority communities. Is marijuana legalization helping?
  • I feel like this article is missing the main point. Yes; assholes trying to prevent black and minority success continue to be a thing same as ever.

But getting the police boot lifted off your neck a little has got to be a good thing, right? Tell me about that! Have arrests and hassling gone down or not?

  • E-bike power limit: BA and ACT urge bike industry to resist 500W proposal
  • I’m not sure if 250W makes sense or any other particular rule, but it wort weight matters too. If a loaded-down cargo bike hits a pedestrian it’s going to hurt a lot more than a road bike collision even at the same speed

  • What happens to little black ants without a queen?

I have some little black ants in my motorhome. I’m pretty sure I picked them up at my last stop in upstate New York but I’ve since driven far away from there. Wikipedia says little black ants nest in the soil so presumably I didn’t take their queen with me.

What’s going to happen to this group that hitched a ride? Are they likely to elect a new queen and go looking for a good nesting spot, or curl up and die, or what?

What's the worst scam you've fallen for (or gotten close to falling for)?
  • So what is actually the deal with CutCo? I know they’re a scam, everyone knows they’re a scam, but this one particular woman I know to be in general not a dummy, says her son spent the summer selling their knives once and made good money.

Was he just lying to her? How does the scam work?
