  • One good point I've not seen so far pointing towards Mayor Pete as a VP is that as the head of the DOT, picking him wouldn't be taking a Dem from any states, and he might sure up the midwest vote. They've also ostensibly at least worked together a bit, both being in the cabinet and all.

He wasn't my favorite for sure in 2020, but she could certainly pick worse.

  • Oh trust me I know, there's a reason I'm subbed to this community.

  • I'm glad he's staying

She*. I'm honestly surprised I've not heard more misogyny from the Republicans after the assassination attempt, I would've thought with a female Secret Service Director that would've been the first thing I heard from them.

  • Is this the talking point you Tankies are settling on?

  • She's Pro-Weed legalization, Pro-Medicare for All, and Pro-PRO Act. By all measures, she's significantly more left wing than Obama, so I don't exactly know how she could be "moving us to the right" at all.

  • doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of gambling

In that it makes it not a gamble anymore yes, but if you get your math correct there's a way you can at least break even no matter what, especially if it's not a true gamble and there's fundamentals behind your bet to study.

Of course If you're doing this much work it's no longer fun, so it's definitely not appealing to those who like gambling purely for the thrill.

  • I know someone who almost died of a spider bite in Spain (I think in Barcelona?), please tell me this is super uncommon, I'd love to visit one day but am deathly afraid of spiders.

  • You're selective on which genocides you're against? That's fucking weird bro.

  • I genuinely think an armed Antifa or BLM march would do infinitely more for the gun control movement than every gun control rally ever held, literally just because it'd scare the hell out of Republicans. Though they'd probably try to make an exemption so it's allowed for "their" guys but not anyone else.

  • Yeah, and if I had to guess, they've hedged their bets and they have money on both sides of the line.

  • I guess he called himself out on war crimes, but Idk what else he’s got. Paintings?

It's absolutely insane he did that, and almost more insane that he just spends his time painting nowadays (like a reverse Hitler, war crimes -> painting).

But I'm almost absolutely sure those things were connected. Apparently, the person who taught him how to paint after he left the presidency was VERY liberal (iirc he literally said "well they ain't big on me in that demographic so I didn't really have a choice", it was on Colbert). She apparently berated him on Iraq through all of her lessons, which iirc he said made him heavily reconsider how he felt about his past actions, and he seemed genuinely full of guilt/repentance.

Doesn't matter much though, you shouldn't have to be berated by your art teacher for hours not to do war crimes.

  • Yeah I always thought lemmy was too small for bots... Seeing literal duplicate comments and how quick the anti-Kamala "about face" was.. I'm not so sure now.

Though it's often hard to tell the difference between a bot and a person who does no thinking of their own, so who knows.

  • Oh, sorry, I could've added an addendum to my comment.

"Every Soviet eventually became dominated by one party or died"

I'm quite aware of the other council based systems that cropped up (most familiar with Mahkno) and the attempts to reform the soviet system (most familiar with Kronstadt) but all of those died, so there's not much point in mentioning them. I also don't see the point of saying "it's just like soviets" when that version of the Soviets has only existed for at most a year or two, or completely only in theory.

  • If they stopped taking money for their campaigns, you'd be complaining that they're disarming themselves against the oncoming threat of fascism.

  • Except every Soviet was eventually dominated by one political party, with no competition against it allowed. That's a far cry from "everyone just elects the best representative for their region no parties"

  • So, you feel that all laws should be obeyed, regardless of how you feel?

Lmfao, so if I think weed should be legal, I can't tell you not to sell weed right in front of a cop?

There's a massive difference between, "Hey he's just taking reasonable precautions, you probably should too if fascism is coming" and "I agree with all laws."

  • Name literally one thing democrats are complacent on and don't actively want to reform.

  • Touch grass.

Seriously, you'd have to be chronically online listening to Russian propaganda to seriously think the Democrats and Republicans are anywhere near each other.
