  • @Fizz @Davriellelouna, if you're killing someone you shouldn't be able to enjoy the comforts of home while the ripples of your action devastate the lives of those around the deceased, imho the sentence should have your judgement as follow on once released.

  • @absGeekNZ, a good start is targeting the biggest polluters though, isn't it?

  • @Dave @absGeekNZ, loss of profits are unfortunately still the best motivator in a world running on old-fashioned, exploitative (on every level) capitalism.

  • @Dave, ah yes, unfortunately not many governments are a representation of their people anymore and even fewer are interested in acting for their benefits.

  • @Dave, my point was that these arbitrators are already known and it can be more effective telling people who to boycott than launching rockets for a 'showy'
    finger point and tell.
Most if not all of these companies give a flying duck for those trying to hold them accountable.

  • @Dave @absGeekNZ, shouldn't we also consider whether it's necessary to pollute to find out more about pollution?
If successful and we confirm what we already know, how much will this contribute to effective change?
Is this the best use of $ for its cause?

  • @absGeekNZ, that very first sentence is sooo wrong.
Splitting and dividing can be seen as favoring FPTP because that's what it'll in effect create again.
(It lowers the threshold for the bigger parties to get in, even if it means holding hands with the devil - as in present coalition).

  • @absGeekNZ @TechnoCat, two BIG ifs,
why bother when we have the Greens already (let's face it they have all the tics about most Kiwis concerns- environment, equality, health care, etc, etc.
They have more foresight, political understanding, new ideas than the destructive coalition has mustered so far) if people ( looking at boomers) would only be more courageous or idealistic ( like they were in the 1960 s
    and following decade).

  • @Davriellelouna, the destructiveness of this government follows more and more the Musk - Trump idiocy.

  • @BalpeenHammer, I'm a control freak, haha, not really.
I've, from early age, loved pulling things apart and figuring out what makes them work and found hands deserved to be a tool worth for more than just ten finger typewriting, etc.
These days we're often ending up in the 'monetary scraping by/time poor'
box and so rely on others in their fields of (greater/lesser) expertise...

  • @BalpeenHammer, Trade Checka, Builders Check, looking at jobs done, word of mouth...
I do a lot of stuff I need done myself so my dependence on others is low.

  • @BalpeenHammer, I guess that's where the 'buyer beware' comes in.
I do background checks or recommendations from people I know. I think you still can be unlucky as times. I like to trust people but I verify as good as I can, especially when big sums are involved.

  • @BalpeenHammer @quoll , not the ones that I know.
I think the bigger problem already might be that the 'pied Pipers' of industry make to many offers that can't be refused (otherwise how can people that not that long ago gave one opinion now claim the opposite,
I mean, are they nut jobs pretending to be normal or just haven't they got enough backbone to stand against orders from the top, or the money is too good - both I guess).

  • @Dave @TagMeInSkipIGotThis , I'm wondering about the legality of that as well plus I would tell them that I boycott them because of it.
As for surcharges, imho they're a blatant rip off, any business surely has all their costs already calculated into the price of their wares.

  • @BalpeenHammer @Dave , and definitely less than the 800 billion/yr of the US who use it to support...

  • @BalpeenHammer , as for genocide headlines... so many it's heart breaking - I generally get news from sources that are balanced and factual - in part because disinformation, lies and falsehoods can be precursors to a lot of inhumane behaviour, including murder and imho have no place in good reporting.

  • @BalpeenHammer , and we want people to be free, that doesn't mean we want them to murder each other, or commit genocide for that matter !

  • @BalpeenHammer , yeah well, no wonder then that people don't want to pay for it !
