i hate literally everyone with a lawn, fuck lawns
  • Okay, cool, thanks. I know conservation will provide a seed listing, if nothing else. It's just a big investment. I didn't say this earlier, but I'm definitely going to do a test spot this year and see how it goes. I'm not able to drop serious cash on seeds without knowing how it's gonna go, to some degree.

I'd be interested in trying some plugs. I'm just lucky enough to have some equipment, so I can turn over some ground pretty quickly.

  • Rough about the septic, comrade. I replaced mine last year.

I actually don't know how much I need in terms of weight, but something around 300k - 350k Sq ft for that field. I don't know what I'm doing with the rest yet, but that's where I'm starting.

Also, this xerces guide is neat, I'm looking through it. And thanks for the seed place. They pretty reputable? I don't want something invasive mixed in.

  • Yeah, that's the direction I'm in. One thing is that I don't know a ton of places like what I want to do. I'm worried about if I just let it grow if there's something that should be in there that isn't, or if something invasive will take over.

I really don't know much about local resources beyond department of natural resources and conservation. Although, I'm sure there are some bee groups that might know of something I don't.

  • Well, it only gets cut like once or twice a year now. There's some stuff established, but it's really big for me to be going through and taking clippings. Possible, for sure, but with a few small kids, my time is at a premium.

Idk, really. I'll see who gets back to me from local offices.

  • I do have a tractor, which I absolutely love. Unfortunately, my beautiful old gal is going to the tractor doctor, but trying to get her ready to plant this fall.

Yeah, I talked to a department of natural resources guy at the state fair, and received a free packet of wildflower seeds, but I need like a few hundred pounds of it. I gotta email some people.

I'll check these links, hopefully find a good seed mix.

  • God, I have a ton of lawn. Few acres of it, really. Got quite a bit more of other stuff. I gotta figure out what I'm gonna do with it.

Right now my back field is just all grown up and a guy cuts it for hay. I'm planning on a wildflower meadow back there, and keeping some bees. Gotta get my tractor ready and all planned out to see what I'm gonna plant and how I'm gonna do it.

The lawn portion I'm not sure. My food plot will go there certainly, but that's only so much. Maybe I'll tear it out and do all clover at first. Idk. I'm open to suggestions.

  • Everyone keeps talking about outdoor cats but what about, outdoor DOGS?!?!?
  • I just really don't want my kids around any dogs, which is why I disagree with just letting any of them roam. A dog snapped at my kid's face and now we're both afraid. Dogs just aren't people. They get upset and bite. I don't mind people having them, but yeah.

  • I Truly Do Not Understand What This Is
  • Seriously. This will be a controversial issue to a handful of freaks online that will mention it in the same breath as litter boxes in school restrooms. I put this under: guaranteed I will never see this discussed offline category.

  • I Truly Do Not Understand What This Is
  • If I'm not mistaken, this is referring to a bill that requires tampons to be stocked at Minnesota public schools free of charge, which is nice,. My wife is a teacher and we buy certain things to keep stocked in her classroom: tampons, deodorant, blah blah.

The kids really use em too. I don't care to buy it, but I'm sure it's much nicer to just have it done through the school.

  • Will we ever know why the shooter shot Trump?
  • I really think this country is too crazy to really determine a motive. Why do people shoot up elementary schools? It seems so easy to think it's politically motivated, but I'm not convinced he hated trump, really.

  • Where the fuck do people even buy furniture anymore?
  • Oh, this really small obscure town next to my parent's tiny obscure town has a great retro furniture store with a town of nice mid century stuff at reasonable prices.

If I were you I'd try there. Other than that, it's fast fashion for furniture, and I hate it so much.

  • [Forever-Free Friday] The Sims 4
  • I don't play games, but I recently tried to get this one going for my wife on steam. I ended up getting it to work, but not through steam. She really likes the game, even just the base model that's free.

I think there is also a lot of modding that's done, so you could put those in.

The issue I hit was that it also requires the EA app, and I got frustrated putting it on Linux so I just got a cracked version, which came with a ton of the DLC's. Like, some 74 of them and every expansion.

She says it's a lot of options to choose from, but works fine after some tweaking.

  • You know how the very first introduction to programming in schools is a thought experiment that involves listing a set of rigorous instructions to make a sandwich?
  • Yeah, when I got my degree, the coding aspect of it became much easier as time went on. The math and shit gets more complex, and whatnot, but after getting some kind of base of understanding, it was easier.

Now I've been doing it professionally for years and can consistently Google how to instantiate arrays in a variety of languages with success.

  • What's the *best* interview process you've experienced?
  • My interview for an internship that became my first developer job, for sure. It wasn't a traditionally "technical" interview, meaning it wasn't the latest trivia ever. They looked over my resume, and asked me technical questions about what I had done, decisions I made for projects, etc. The team just didn't believe in staring at people trying to code on a whiteboard.

Got the offer within about an hour and didn't have to interview to sign on permanently. I have subsequently always refused interviews where salary range wasn't disclosed up front, and if I talk to a recruiter, I have always asked for contact information for a dev on the team.

But, that's the advantage of having a job I don't need to leave, and having experience. I've heard much worse from others.

  • Toddler posting

My toddler is a lovely child. I spend a lot of time with them, I lovingly refer to them as my permanent companion. I cannot step outside for a cigarette without them coming out with me. No problem, but at some point I'd like to transition them to their own bed. They sleep in ours every single night, and generally sleep much better in there and for longer.

Has anyone transitioned a kid to their own bed after a long time of co sleeping? They don't fall asleep on their own yet and I lay with them until they fall asleep, but if I try in their room it's tears until we're back in the big bed.

Dear Prudence article. Headline says makes good money, letter directly says he doesn't make a lot of money, but isn't in poverty.
