  • We don't have one. Running a search engine is expensive and you can no longer just run on endless amounts of VC. You need a way to make money somehow. Kagi might be the closest (I haven't tried it because Google is still generally usable for me, but I've heard good things), but it's not free.

  • And most people prefer content algorithms. Or maybe a better way of phrasing it would be they're used to and expect content algorithms. Having to actively search for and follow topics is not only yet another hoop users have to jump through (good UX has as few steps as possible to get you where you want, a good chunk of users jumps ship at every step) it also requires that they know which hashtags are being used for the content they want to see beforehand, which might be difficult for you if you relied on content algorithms before.

  • What gave you the idea that I support our current car-centric infrastructure? I don't, for multiple reasons clean air being one of them. But that's not an issue that can be addressed with one law, smoking in public is.

Your freedom ends where mine begins.

Exactly. And if your freedom to enjoy a public space requires you to impact the enjoyment and health of others that's where your freedom ends.

  • Because smoking anything in public is always intruding on everybody else's right to not have an increased risk of lung cancer. And it smells horrible. I'm fine with smoking in areas where everyone has consented to it, but public spaces like outdoor seating in restaurants aren't that.

  • Because even his idiotic voters wouldn't intentionally drive up their power bill. Well, some might, but most wouldn't. But if it's harder for consumers to make that informed choice his friends in industry can flood the American market with inefficient crap and his voters will probably blame Biden or immigrants or Jewish space lasers for their increased power bill.

  • Do you also turn off autocorrect? As for why I'm not proofreading my entries? I am. But typos happen. Try to put yourself into the shoes of the average office drone or consumer just using a PC as a tool. I'm pretty sure I've harped on this before, but most people aren't experts or enthusiasts, they just want a working computer that's as simple to use as possible. The benefits of a case sensitive-file system are far outweighed by how susceptible it is to user error.

  • you should have not written them differently.

    But you did.

Remember that 99% of the time that's gonna be because of a typo for 99% users. They won't have File.txt, FILE.TXT and FiLe.tXt, they'll have ReportMay.docx and REportMay.docx or whatever.

And yeah, that includes me. I don't want case-sensitivity for that reason alone. Thanks, but no thanks.
