Are there any reputable privacy friendly phone number apps?

Hi my fellow Lemmings and friends!

I need to get a second number, and I would prefer not to use Google Voice. I have an Android phone and it needs to be a USA (+1) number.

What are the reputable, privacy friendly apps for this? It would be amazing if it was free but I will not hold my breath on that.

Luck be a Landlord Might Be Banned from Google Play

From the developer's post:

Happy New Year everyone! Just three hours into 2025, I received an email from Google Play Support with the following subject line:

Action Required: Your app is not compliant with Google Play Policies (Luck be a Landlord)

Nothing has changed with Luck be a Landlord in the past few months, but for whatever reason, my game "contains gambling" now!

I've already gone through this song and dance multiple times with Google Play over the game being banned by them in 13 countries, so while this isn't exactly new, it's a lot scarier!

I genuinely think Luck be a Landlord deserves the equivalent of an E10+ rating across all regions, but at this point I've just given up and will deal with whatever inaccurate rating is slapped on the game.

I've now fil

Free Video Game Giveaways @feddit.uk

About the freegames community

The freegames community has been going for a year and a half now, probably time I updated the info.

What to post

This is a place to post limited-time giveaways of full video games that are then yours to keep forever at no cost. Please use the search to check what you're posting hasn't already been posted, and start your posts with [Source] so that people can ignore giveaways they're not interested in. For example, if Fanatical were giving away a Steam key for Pong, I'd title the post [Fanatical/Steam] Pong.

I post deals as I find them (sometimes spread out over a few days or bundled together so it doesn't get too noisy) but feel free to post them if you find them first.

If you have keys that you'd like to give away then !randomactsofgaming@lemm.ee and !giftofgaming@lemmy.world are the best places to post.

Forever-Free Friday

The main exception to the limited-time giveaways only rule is for the occasional posting of games which are always free. On Fridays you can post a

A Brief Introduction to RBlind

This is our attempt to explain Lemmy, without actually getting into federation, activity pub, Lemmy, and all those technical things that a lot of people find frightening and complicated. I thought some of you doing the hard work of building out your own communities and convincing people to move from other places might find it of use. Please feel free to edit to be less screen-reader specific, and perhaps add some screenshots, if you'd like to use it for your own servers or communities. Or just use it verbatim; either way is fine! We'd love a link, though. Also, if you know any blind folks who could benefit from Lemmy, don't hesitate to send them our way. Anyone who can use their screen reading software well enough to browse basic websites shouldn't have any trouble. Note: the original post was editted with suggestions from the comments. Tuta lancia l'applicazione separata Tuta Calendar

Can't grant access to location

Hi all! I hope this is the right community for this, I have a rather strange issue with Firefox for Android, and I couldn't find any info on this particular bug(?).

For a while now (though I can't really put my finger on since when) I can't grant access in Firefox to location data. The small modal popup appears, but the button that should allow the use of my location just... doesn't do anything. I can press as many times as I want, but the dialog doesn't disappear, the button does not doing anything. I can see it gets pressed, but no effect.

But not always. Sometimes it works, but 90% of the time it won't. There are times when I can spam it till I die, other times the button gets pressed after a while, or after trying different angles to press the button. Yeah, I know, it sounds silly. And also, there are cases where it works right the first touch on the "Allow" button.

This feels even worse in Private Browsing session, tho I don't know is it technically worse, but it definitely

The Startpage App has launched!

Leaked Cellebrite Tool Docs Reveal List of Phones That Can Be Unlocked

According to the documents, Cellebrite could not unlock any iPhones running iOS 17.4 or newer as of April 2024, labeling them as “In Research.” For iOS versions 17.1 to 17.3.1, the company could unlock the iPhone XR and iPhone 11 series using their “Supersonic BF” (brute force) capability. However, iPhone 12 and newer models running these iOS versions were listed as “Coming soon.”

The Android support matrix showed broader coverage for locked Android devices, though some limitations remained. Notably, Cellebrite could not brute force Google Pixel 6, 7, or 8 devices that had been powered off. The document also specifically mentioned GrapheneOS, a privacy-focused Android variant reportedly gaining popularity among security-conscious users.
