Nightdive Studios confirm Linux and macOS ports of System Shock are cancelled

How many people contributed to the Kickstarter based on this promise? Will they receive a refund?
- Yeah I'm curious about that myself.
I mean, native ports are cool and all, but are they really needed? I would assume the game runs just fine with Proton.
- There are some very vocal people who will tell you that proton is just a stopgap measure, and shouldn't be relied on for the future of Linux gaming.
  That said, I know the devs have been putting in effort/patches to make sure the proton/steam deck experience works well, and I consider that just as good. All I really want from devs is actual support of the Linux platform, and if they choose to do that through a tool like proton I'm ok with it.
  It's very unfortunate for Mac users though.
- They are nice to have, but most of the time aren't updated as often as the Windows build.
Honestly better cancelled, than bad ports.
Given that a common subset of the Win32 ABI is now a reasonably efficient virtual machine for running PC games on Linux and (soon) macOS, we can probably expect “do Mac/Linux ports” replaced with “make sure the Windows .exe runs on Mac/Linux”
