Sometimes you post on Lemmy and it gets a level of traction that you were unprepared for. Right now, that just ends up filling your inbox. It would be nice if we could mute posts and then no responses would be sent to the inbox and everyone else can continue their discussions.
Muting posts and comments is possible with PieFed https://codeberg.org/rimu/pyfedi
For Lemmy I guess you or others can check Lemmy's GitHub issues to see whether this feature has been requested already.
Sometimes it gets overwhelming though. I'm an introvert, I like being low-key. I freak out when a post goes crazy. Especially like this morning where I posted a throwaway thought and everyone was super passionate in their opposition.
I know being bullied online doesn't feel good but u gotta just ignore the shit people say. They are engaging in bad faith if they are being cunts if its legitimate criticism then its food for thought. U mind sharing the post so i can see?
@TexMexBazooka@sabreW4K3 I know you mean well, but it's ableist and exclusionary to say that we should not be using social media if we can't "handle the heat." Notifications can ruin my sleep or keep me from focusing on my work. We probably agree that it would be nice to engage with our audiences on our own terms - so I don't understand where the dismissiveness comes from.
If notifications cause you that much distress, social media will be inherently damaging to your mental health. At that point, it makes sense to mute notifications for apps entirely.
however
Being able to mute a thread is not something that would subtract from anybody else’s experience, and can only add to people’s who use it.
That’s… actually a pretty good analogy. I see your point, especially since the ability to mute a thread doesn’t subtract from anybody else’s experience
