Thousands of planes and ships are facing GPS jamming and spoofing. Experts warn these attacks could potentially impact critical infrastructure, communication networks, and more.
If only there were still a backup like LORAN. It wasn't as accurate as GPS, but it would still get you to your destination.
VOR and NDB stations keep getting decommissioned as well.
Beyond the Baltics, war zone areas around Ukraine and the Middle East have also seen sharp rises in GPS disruptions, including signal blocking meant to disrupt airborne attacks.
If the impact on uninvolved civilian aircraft isn't enough to demand an end to these conflicts, I don't think we'll ever get our leaders to do anything.
EDIT: Is it just me, or is it weird that I got downvoted on lemmy.ml for suggesting a country should stop being an imperialistic, kleptocratic aggressor state
I believe they're available as backup but re-calibrate themselves with GPS coordinates if available. This is not a problem when GPS jamming is used but becomes an issue with spoofing - the pilots need to monitor for it.
