Tracy Tormé, ‘Sliders’ Co-Creator and ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ Writer, Dies at 64

It feels strange linking something that's not a meme, but the idea is for Ten Forward to be a place for occasional Trek discussion, news, art, etc. too.

I've gone ahead and tagged it as [News] since it's different than the usual content.

  • Tracy Tormé got writing credits on 12 first season TNG episodes. He was probably as responsible for shaping Star Trek as a notable like Dorothy Fontana. I'm glad he was there to help make Star Trek what it is today. RIP.

Also, Jerry O'Connell, who was the lead in Sliders, plays Ransom on Lower Decks.

  • I liked Sliders too. I never got a chance to watch the series as I was usually out playing hockey in the evenings. Something I should watch out for now.

  • Very sad indeed.

Among his works during the first season were "Haven", which introduced the character of Lwaxana Troi, and "The Big Goodbye", which went on to win a Peabody Award. source

Introducing Lwaxana Troi alone makes him a legend.

He also was a writer for Carnivàle, which was excellent.

  • despite its gimmick i kinda liked sliders... prolly bateman is just a really likeable guy

  • What an amazing man who affected so many lives without us even knowing until we read about his death.

I grew up in the 80s as a kid and as a teen in the 90s.

Tracy Tormé's writing made me laugh as a kid watching SCTV reruns in Canada ... a place where we saw guys like John Candy and Eugene Levy, and set us up for a really silly goofy kind of humour for life.

He made me think, feel and wonder when I started watching Star Trek TNG

He scared the crap out of me and scarred me for life when I saw 'Fire In The Sky (1993)'

He helped work on one of my favourite all time films 'Contact (1997)'

What an amazing legacy. Thanks Tracy Tormé, I owe you so many good things you gave to us.
