  • China still burns more coal every year than every single other country on earth put together.

    This matters a lot, because it doesn't matter that you're "using electricity" if it's coming from a big ol' coal pollution factory.

    In some ways, it's preferable to directly use the coal in some applications -- changing from chemical energy to thermal to movement to electricity back to thermal energy can be less efficient than just changing the chemical energy to thermal energy and using that directly.

      They also release the most polluted nuclear waste water into the ocean. They had one propaganda campaign where they were condemning the release of Fukushima waste water by Japan, even though there are 10 Chinese nuclear plants that each release around 3 times as much pollution.

    • This used to be true, but it's out of date now. China, like it or not idk, is outpacing us, and is turning off more coal by the day.

      The predictable result of all that new renewable energy is that emissions in China declined slightly in the first four months of 2025. No other industrialized country saw similar reductions. “China now leads the 4th Industrial Revolution, making huge strides in electrification, renewable energy, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and the Internet of Things. And, just as oil and gas drive the petrostates of the Arab world [and most other countries as well], clean energy technologies are powering China’s growth,” says OilPrice.com.

    • Heatpumps produce 3-5 times more heat then the electricity put into them. EVs are about as bad as a n ice car, even when run on coal electricity. Also we know how to replace coal based electricity.
