Amusingly, I ended up writing about this very thing yesterday. The whole mythology about western liberalism being a superior system rested on the US having had a massive head start after WW2. To be somewhat fair, nobody in the early 2000s other than certain circles would've thought China was staging the biggest fake-out in history
Except they weren't. What makes this all really funny is that China literally publishes 5 year plans, and the west keeps acting like China is inscrutable.
I mean true but also I thought they literally said that's what they were going to do. Like I swear we are constantly caught off guard by them going to do exactly what they say they're going to do
