Do you tag people in Lemmy?

If so, why and what do you tag them? What fits your bill as to tag and remember someone and to just leave it be?

Oh, bonus question, if you tag people, what am I tagged as? 🥺

  • To be honest, I don't think I paid much attention to that being a thing haha (although fedia has notes, not tags). Back when I used Discord I sometimes added notes, mostly about nicknames and stuff - but this isn't my "chatting with friends and recognising people" space, so not sure I'll use them.

  • No, because since it's only a third party app implementation, tags wouldn't follow if I go from my phone to my desktop or any other device. It also just seems kinda... Strange?

Do you keep a journal of those you meet in-person? No judgement if you do, but if your reaction to that question was "Eww, no!" but also do user tagging I would be very curious as to what the difference is for you.

Anyways, for problematic people they either get blocked or banned (the egregious ones) which by nature of it being a first-party feature is already synced.

    • That explains why I didn't know what the hell OP was taking about.

  • I use Sync and yes. I tag transphobes, racists, obvious trolls, Zionists, MAGAts, and general chuds.

The vast majority of users you included I don't have tagged as anything

Edit: so far it looks like I have no one in this thread tagged as anything.

  • Ha, two people I tagged so far in this thread. One for being a self-described and proud redpiller type (I don't remember the specifics on that one) and one for conversing in bad faith; that person kept arguing with well-sourced fact. Think flat-earther type stubbornness to acknowledge reality for the sake of being funny or edgy. There's a time and a place for that, but it was on a serious topic where everyone else was taking it seriously and trying to be genuinely helpful.

I haven't tagged you, OP. Yet.

  • Nope. If they do enough to warrant me clicking their profile to see more about them, I'm usually 90% of the way to a block anyway.

  • In addition to what everyone else said, I like tagging instance admins too. Only my instance admins are highlighted (red), but I like to know an admin when I see one in the wild lol.

I’ll also tag accounts that show a lot of specialized knowledge in their field of work. Like, “environmental scientist” or “airline pilot” or something like that.

But most of the time there are no tags, I’m just relying on my total upvote/downvote count towards the account to get some sense of who they are.

  • I've been mentioned a couple times for both my specialty knowledge and because I banned a person from curated tumblr for throwing a tantrum so that's a thing. Idk about tags tho

  • I typically do not tag people in the Lemmy app. However, there was an instance where I inadvertently did so. This occurred because I was using a Mitra instance to communicate with Lemmy instances, and the Mitra client app automatically tagged the Lemmy user in that process.
