A reminder that not all recent accounts are wreckers.

Some recent users (like myself, if two months is considered a short amount) in here actually enjoy this place, and it would be counterproductive and wrong to immediately dismiss every relatively controversial take because of the age of their account. Obviously if they come in flinging shit that's something else, but unless that's the case take into account they're just a new user.

I'm not saying this in response to any struggle sesh and more as a thing to take into account from this point onwards as more recently created accs have come in and started stirring shit, and people will (reasonably) lose trust in them.

  • It is abit frustrating. It seems like every time I engage with a new account, they get banned within the next couple of days. I'm fine with disagreeing with people, what actually annoys me is when they do the old set up a strawman and knock it down bit. I mean, it's amusing insofar as I don't actually have to think of a response since they aren't even able to articulate a coherent response that doesn't completely misrepresent what I have said, but getting rid of them so quickly is also pretty boring.

  • Yeah obvious wreckers tend to show their asses almost immediately. As a userbase we've gotten pretty good at smelling bullshit, unfortunately innocent new accts sometimes catch strays.

  • I've been saying it a lot, because this account is also quite new, and I thought it was funny that a new account was saying that new accounts are suspicious and shouldn't be trusted.

I'll cut back from now on, I think the joke has run its course (and I don't think a lot of people checked my account's age first, so they probably didn't even notice that I was making a joke).

Depending on the person, a person who is genuinely new to hexbear probably won't know much about the site culture, and depending on their past history might have some nasty brainworms that need to be dealt with, but yeah, acting with massive suspicion every time someone has a bad take isn't healthy or beneficial to the community. Better to just call them out or explain things to them rather than getting needlessly hostile. It does hurt to be told you're wrong and horrible by a community you've just joined.

    • And there's a flip side to this - a hesitancy to call out the bad takes of veteran users

  • Nono you don’t understand we’ve hit the point where two accts literally have different opinions from one another at any given time now smh my head

what is this family coming toooooo

  • The post I made was asking for advice in what to do to make things better for my girlfriend’s brother who I do care about. Also for what it’s worth a troll group called lemmitors are responsible for why the post got so big, I don’t know why but that’s what someone commented.
