And you - general megathread poster - yeah - just in case you accidentally wander into the news megathread one day, there are some things you should know, and one of them is that there is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we're the greatest megathread in the world.

We're seventh in citations, twenty-seventh in accurate predictions, twenty-second in effortposts, forty-ninth in non-mainstream article posting, 178th in guessing when wars will start, third in powerusers, number four in dialectics, and number four in megathread exports. We lead Hexbear in only three categories: pointless infighting, number of adults who believe Putin is based, and copium manufacturing, where we produce more than the next twenty-six lemmy megathreads combined, twenty-five of whom are full of delusional liberals. None of this is the fault of any Hexbear user, but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt, a member of the WORST-period-GENERATION-period-EVER-period, so when you ask what makes us the greatest megathread in the world, I don't know what the fuck you're talking about! Jokes about whether they got a Zionist's semen in time?!

Yesterday I posted that LE suspected individuals on a surveillance video of being involved which I thought was odd and unlikely for this sort of circumstance (because for several reasons this kind of thing you would expect to be a sole individual whether he was a fed patsy or not)
Turns out it appears it was just shitty police work they were prob just workers setting prepping for the event or something
In spite of this there’s still cop sources saying multiple people involved is likely.
My take? The reason you hear pigs talk about how they suspect others to be involved is because of the sheer amount of materials he had/planning is rightfully raising alarms in cop brains. Others WERE involved they were just other pigs. Not all of the pigs are on the same page about this and once this becomes clear we will get small blurbs of confirmation and all talk about that will evaporate in the media
- Someone else almost certainly was invovled, at least in terms of pointing this guy to New Orleans. This attack could have been done in Houston, where he lived, or ~2.5 hours away in Austin or San Antonio, or ~3.5 hours away in Dallas. Instead he picked New Orleans, ~6 hours away, conveniently at a time when they are repairing/replacing the bollards that would have stopped him. Call me paranoid, but that doesn't strike me as serendipity. I doubt the changes to the bollards were being advertised in the media, but even if they were, why would he be monitoring traffic/safety repairs happening in a city 6 hours away?
  
  the bollards thing was potentially a multiple month window (work started in november) and frankly that entrance point (Canal St and Bourbon St) looks like a soft target even before this construction work started (the old broken bollard system did not block the sidewalks at all, and unlike much of bourbon st. the walgreens at that corner doesn't have support pillars holding up a balcony mid-sidewalk). I see like 4+ other places at cross streets where a pretty large vehicle could have snuck through by going onto the sidewalk even with the bollard system operational.
  And as for "why New Orleans not Texas?" it seems pretty straightforward to me, new orleans and specifically bourbon street is seen nationwide as a hive of "sin" or whatever. This reads to me like he could've just drove to new orleans and picked the most obvious entrance point to bourbon st (from a major cross street, canal), with relatively little planning required for that part. Other stuff like the explosives I haven't looked into

  Sixth Street in Austin has that reputation just as much as Bourbon Street does nowadays.
  Bourbon Street normally has bollards that would have prevent this. This guy picked it as a target at a time when they weren't operable. That's what raises my alarms.
  
  as someone not living in either state I've never heard of sixth street but bourbon street is fairly well known in my social circles

  If you look into it further, you'll see that that isn't necessarily the case. It had bollards which were designed to prevent this sort of thing, as well as just generally close bourbon street to cars outside of designated hours, but they didn't necessarily achieve either goal, due to inadequate coverage and poor reliability. So new orleans had been using alternative methods, consisting mostly of temporary barriers and parked cop cars, instead for some time. In fact I'm not sure if the full system of bollards originally envisioned was ever installed. There was one missing at iberville at least
  The attacker got through the gap between a police cruiser (which was parked across the street in lieu of the bollards) and the buildings, by using the sidewalk. If you look at street view images of the old bollard system, there are a half dozen places where he could have done the same with the old bollards still in place, including the very one where he actually ended up entering. He needed not actually even know the bollards were being torn out for this to work. ignoring mirrors, a truck like the one he used is only 6.5-7 ft wide, and gaps of that size definitely existed around bourbon st. (pics below)

  as you can see, the left hand sidewalk is essentially unobstructed (the trash can is not bolted down), and some additional width is afforded by the permanent part of the bollards being a couple feet out into the roadway. for reference the middle passage between the bollards with barriers lowered is being quoted in the media as 13 ft wide. For the bollard system to be effective it would need to have additional posts on the sidewalk to fill in gaps. 5 ft or smaller gaps would still allow free flow of pedestrians without letting cars through, but this 8+ ft gap business is just not sufficient, and neither was parking a single police cruiser way out into the intersection
