That's a weird way of writing shit stealth because of the dumb AI. If it were a Ubisoft game they would be grilled but it's MS so it's OK. The AI on this game is an order of magnitude dumber than in SW Outlaws. Seriously, there's no consistency whatsoever.
Edit: The post-hoc rationalisation in the replies is insane. People will say the stupidest things to defend poorly made games, such as "bad AI is good".
If you need to have 2001 lvl of AI for your game to be playable, then you failed at your job. That's it. This is not an indie dev, it's a team supported by one of the richest companies on earth.
I repeat, if this game was made by Ubisoft it would have been panned. It survives on nostalgia alone. If the gameplay is shit, I'm better off buying an Indy box set and just watching the films. Yes, the game takes over 10h to beat, but remove the walking simulation parts and it's almost even with the films.
As someone who doesn't like stealth games, I like being able to play a first person Indiana Jones game where the stealth isn't punishing.
I still get caught by the officers who can see through your disguise. I run away. The alert level goes down. Whatever. I don't need it to be punishing.
I'd argue smart AI is not always a goal worth striving for, and in fact it frequently may not be. If Indiana Jones is occasionally stealthy and they're engineering a game where you only have the tools that he'd typically have, the rules need to be clear on what works and does not work to stay in stealth. Since he doesn't have Dishonored powers, I think it's okay that you're basically invisible if you're almost 5 feet above ground level, and it's okay that they take 3 full seconds to recognize that you're in front of them, because the feedback on what you've done wrong is good.
Stealth was my least favourite part. But that's just my playstyle. Just wanted to bonk nazis on the head.
There were very few missions where I didn’t knock every Nazi out, but I also just barely started the Egypt section
