Entered the new place today.

And on top of that, couch guy has turned up only to find that it's too small for his car despite my telling him the dimensions ahead of time. So that's fallen through as well, arrrgh... what do I do now??? Pay someone on airtasker to take it?

Hugs. It doesn't matter if it's not perfect as long as it's clean and safe and you have access to all the things you need and can do what you want.
- I do feel like I've got to shrink my idea of "doing what I want" down to fit the space, especially considering how much I have to pay to still live there. Never mind the plants, I realise I will be doing a lot less cooking here as well. Need to remember the big benefit of this place is I can leave once uni is done. I'm going to make the most of that choice, not going to let this bastard rental market crush me
I really feel for you. All I really have to say is that we're really adaptable critters, and I'm sure once you're over the shock of the move, you'll get adjusted to the smaller place pretty quickly.
- Thanks 🧡 yeah, I think I'll find a way forward and adjust my mentality to just get through the next six months. I'm lucky to have my own space at least, and not with housemates from hell. I'm lucky too that I have a great job and plenty of field work options coming up.

- My current council doesn't do on-demand hard rubbish :/ The next booking available is well after I've moved out. I've got a friend with a station wagon, we might be able to take it to the tip. A shame as it's a perfectly functional couch but I can't seem to move it online

Just saw an insta story of a group of friends together that I’ve hung out with a few times during this year (not super close with them but neither are they with each other). We have a group chat used in the past to plan catch ups… not this time though. Maybe it’s just a coincidence they’re all together but can’t help but feel purposely excluded.

If I’m standing there doing trade work let’s say, why do people think it’s ok to just stand there and watch me?

If you’re sitting there at your desk clacking away on your excel spreadsheet or whatever, and I saunter up behind you and just stare at you doing work, that would be considered kinda creepy.

I get this a lot when I make pasta in the shop or the girls are making gnocchi, but we are doing it expecting to be seen. It's performative and customers like to watch us do it because it signifies that what we're making is fresh or traditional. It's a bit different if you're not expecting to be watched by curious onlookers.

I find it really interesting watching someone do something well, particularly when it’s a thing I struggle with. Don’t generally watch tradies to avoid making them uncomfortable, though - that’s too micromanagery

Are people going through keyboards/mice like some sort of consumables?
I'm looking at reviews for a mouse, and something supposedly good about it is that it lasted some person four whole years. I've been using the mouse on my work PC for 15 years, it was the first Bluetooth mouse I purchased. I've been using this keyboard for 10 years, and the only reason I bought it was that I was no longer typing on my laptop keyboard. Side note: I would love to buy another one just like this one for home, but it doesn't exist any more.

10 years with no signs of slowing in the next decade sounds right to me. 15 years for the mouse and the only reason I'm considering replacing it is I'd like one that can switch between multiple devices and maybe do away with AA batteries. Do people really go through peripherals quickly?

My Logitech mx518 was one of the best mouse that I had for work and home.
It wasn’t until a dumb cleaner used cleaning agents on it during covid that they ruined the texture and finish on the mouse. I’m still mad about it but they last forever and have all the convenient buttons like thumb buttons and scrolling wheel.
I still have one in it’s packaging because I thought they were so good.
I impulse purchase peripherals all the time lol
I have no idea when I got my mouse, there's a few around and they must be 10 years old now. All wired, no wireless.
My keyboard I got about 8ish years ago, a Corsair mechanical keyboard, cherry red iirc. I like the clacky sound, I like sounding like an 80s hacker lol.
My PC (MINERVA) is newer, bought it pre-made in 2020/21. My PC (ATHENA) before that, I built myself and is as old as the keyboard. The case is way older, but the internals were new when I built it. I still have it and plan on turning it into media hub thing at some point lol.
P.S My phone is called FRIGG. Yes I have a theme lol

So after the bullshit day I’ve had, this fucking Christmas thing comes back up again. My brother in law kinda got up my and the Mrs sat there are just said nothing despite multiple requests for her input.

Yeah… good thing we’ve got a couples therapy session coming up. To say I’m pissed off and hurt is an understatement.

This is why I hate xmas, everyone just seems to use it as a reason to hate you, for failing to meet terms that only exist in their mind.

The spreadsheet of gifts has already started on this end. I need to get up to three gifts for each person (One from wife and I, then 1-2 from the kids). There are two Christmas parties this year, and the in-law side is going to be so big this year, the adults are doing a secret santa to reduce the gift load at least amongst ourselves.
That leaves me buying 25-35ish gifts just for the extended family. Not including the four of us. Experience has taught me that leaving the shopping to the last week before Christmas is a terrible plan. Oh! And the final week of November has a kids' birthday, Sister's birthday, Niece's birthday, Father-in-law's birthday and our Wedding Anniversary. Gotta get through all that before I really start stressing about Christmas.

I ate at Yaki Jin in Kew this week. They do an all you can eat for $50. I like that their menu is not OTT, but pretty much has all the staples.

Meating in the CBD is similar, it because it’s more buffet style I always want to eat eeevvvrrrything, if I’m a little ambivalent about it.

Thinking I really dig Yaki Jin because I want to eat there again, like now. Hahaha.

TV Review. Paul T Goldman. Series. Stan.

This was really weird, like the weirdest thing I have seen for a while.

A misogynistic anti-social personality disordered man is prey to a con woman . He goes on the war path and his fragile ego leads him to invent a huge international organised crime conspiracy rather than saying to himself, "I was a foolish idiot and got ripped off because I am a hater who will believe anyone who panders to my prejudices". And then he write books and a screenplay, makes himself to be James Bond. He becomes a bit pathetic and it's more and more obvious he is not all there.

The last half hour is like that episode of Married With Children where the Bundys try to sell a story and the tv producers see through them easily.

It's easy to pity Paul, the disordered are often pitied because it is so obvious they are broken, until you remember he stalked people and slandered people causing real harm. He saved no one.

I watched this a few weeks ago and my thoughts were exactly the same as yours. It's like he didn't want his story to end and the production company thought "fuck it. We're getting paid for this shit regardless".

  The last 30 minutes are when reality lands as the producer tells the real fact based story with actual proof.

Or you can just watch The Great British Bake Off, even when the contestants go there's nothing but love and adoration. They cry cus they're losing being able to spend all day with their new best friends.
